Unemployed Parents

Could anyone tell me what documents should someone send if his parents have been unemployed two years so far?
My parents are not employed and they don't file tax returns , but the schools say my financial Aid application is not complete as they need me to send the tax returns? Thank you for any help

You do not have to send tax returns if they are not required to file taxes. Call the school and ask if they have a non-tax filer form for your parents to complete.

Great! Thank you very much for your quick and helpful reply

Your parents could file tax returns even though they were not employed. IRS VITA & TCE will file your taxes for free!

Yes, they could, if they were U.S. citizens, but why should they??? It’s certainly not required in order for their student to receive financial aid. A statement of non-filing status is quite sufficient.

In this case, in any event, the OP is an international student . . . whose parents could not file U.S. tax returns even if they wanted to!

^Ok, I did not know OP is an international student looking for financial aid.

The OP should have stated that he/she is an int’l student.

The student needs to contact the school and ask.
