I think those are really strange. I got a 9 on the Dec SAT and I really wonder what exactly made the test scorers give different grades. Do they actually have "hard" and "easy" graders too? Isn't that sort of biased? Do you think it might be personal preferences? (I'm not mad about my score, I'm actually happy that I went up from an 8, but this is kind of interesting)

"Each essay is scored separately by two readers who won't know the other's score. Each reader gives the essay a score from 1 to 6 (6 is the highest score), based on the overall quality of the essay and its demonstration of writing competence. If the two readers' scores differ by more than one point, a scoring leader will resolve the difference. The essay score equals one-third of the entire score for the writing section." - the CB

Yes, the process is inherently subjective, but the College Board works hard to limit this subjectivity from being expressed in your grade.

wow mine are totally the opposite
i have gotten 8s on all four of my essays

I think what might have played a role is that I wrote an essay that was pretty feministic. Generally speaking, a female grader would probably find it better than a male grader. Just a thought..

I got a 9 too! I wrote a five para style (was really not finding anything to write at that time!). I guess one English teacher loved Five para style while other loved it a bit less!

I got an 11. I'm baffled. I swear, I've always felt as though it's very difficult to get a score in the double digits for the SAT, esp. when compared to the ACT. (For the SAT, the first test I received an 8 on and the second time I received a 9.) What do you guys think? Maybe it's just my imagination... XD

Used 4 paragraph format.

A tad bit disappointing for me though. My prep teacher gave me scores ranging between 10 - 12. Ehh, one of my weaker essays I guess.

i think the essay is way subjective and dumb.
i got a 9 on my first, 10 on my second.

the thing that bugs me is that my 9 could easily have been an 8 or a 10, it just happened that i got one person who gave it a 5 and one who gave it a 4.

I got a 12. It was like three paragraphs (intro, body, body.) No conclusion whatsoever (since I ran out of space midsentence.)

I got 8 then 10 then 12! :-)

So I don't have this uneven grade thing.

barlteby--I can't believe that English teachers will give u 6 in an essay w/o conclusion! I suppose ur last body contained some concluding sentences right?

i got 9,10,12

all used intro, body, body, and conclusion. filled up all the pages everytime

The scorers ought to give u good score if u've the arguments and at the same time, if u have a legible (well, let's say a good) handwriting.
