Unexpected deferrals - what next? Chance me

Hi! So in the past month I received notice from two of my top schools, Tulane and Northeastern, that I was deferred. Frankly, I didn’t see this coming as my stats and school’s Naviance graphs made me feel very aligned with them as far as numbers, and I find my extracurriculars to be decent.

White female from California
GPA UW 3.7
W 4
ACT (took once) 34
7 AP classes through high school
Good ECs (teen court thru a juvenile delinquent diversion program in city hall, journalism outside school and went to American Library Association and Comic Con with press pass, Interact club, Girl Scouts, allstar cheerleader and co-captain of high school squad senior year, shadowed physicians in the Emergency Room, etc.)

Honestly, although I wasn’t rejected, I was hoping to having acceptances early in the process because now I feel very defeated and as if something is wrong with my application that is holding me back. Either way, the deferrals made me wonder if I’m still in a position to expect acceptances from these schools. I know Tulane is big on demonstrated interest and I had my counselor email them about my interest, as did I in a particularly rousing emailed essay.
With these schools both being private, the issue of scholarship is still so prominent. I applied early to have this chance, so I worry that now the scholarships might not be a consideration before. I won’t receive any need based aid but can’t pay the hefty 70k a year.

Basically, I’m asking if the chance to be accepted (and get a scholarship ideally!) still exists. I thank you all for any insight and apologize for my moping - in the end, deferrals and denials will be a part of the process, and we’ll all end up where we need too!

Perhaps they deferred you because you didn’t show enough interest or they thought you were using them as safeties. Your UW GPA is a little low. Don’t be too upset about it; college admission is weird. But, since these are your top two schools, email them about your continued interest, maybe visit if you can (?). People definitely get in after being deferred. Northeastern didn’t have a “Why” essay (idk about Tulane), so use your email to your regional counselor to specifically answer that question. Make it clear that they are a top choice for you, and you didn’t just apply for the sake of applying. You’ll be fine. I know, it sucks. Been there, trust me.
