S accepted to both! Have visited. S not sure of a major, put down undecided at URI and Kinesiology (Sport Studies) at UNH. He is OOS for both and costs seem to be fairly comparable. Commute home also comparable. S likes the beach and the mountains. S hopes to play club hockey, might have a slightly better shot at URI since it sounds like club team is rebuilding. UNH would likely be intramural since they are D-1 and the club is top as well. S said his head is swirling and doesn't know which school to choose. Any insight from those that may have faced this decision with these schools? Thanks!

Contgratulations! Knowing his love for hockey, beach and mountains - UNH would be my pick. Even though the mtns are 3 hours away from UNH they have a very active outdoor club with frequent trips for hiking, skiing etc. Of course, the beach is 20 minutes away.

It’s likely that as your son’s horizons expand - he may find that playing hockey isn’t all he wants to do. At UNH he can play intramural and also be actively involved in school. Maybeeee he can even do an internship with the D-1 hockey team? Just trying to make a case to not have the decision based solely on club hockey.

I’d go with UNH. The Mountains are close by as are the beaches. Hampton Beach if he likes a very long beach with a lot of activity or the quieter beaches in Southern Maine. He can run into Boston if he feels like going into the city.

I’d say that it’s more like 2 hours to the mountains (2:13 from UNH to the Mt Washington Hotel according to Google).

UNH has a much higher public profile in the Boston area than URI. I have no idea what that is worth.

Personally, I would choose UNH.

Thanks to all for input…I will pass it along to him and then hope for the best:)
