Unified Auditions 2016

@claire74 Yeah what a waste of the app money. She said they erased her original time off her accepted page… Phtt. Gone. But she had it recorded from the day she got the first notice. No excuse from them for doing that, just well, “it’s now at this time”.

At the same time, she called Texas state to talk to them about her scheduling and they could not have been more kind.

Could that be indicative of the vibe of the two programs?

@mtmcmt - That’s terrible, but just to be certain – as I read your account I looked (yes, I have the pw) at my d’s accept’d page, to double check, but could see nothing from CCM on there. Went back to their confirmation and they never sent the details through Accept’d - it was through logging in to their own page. Nothing went through Accept’d for us with that school. My d’s times had not been altered. So just double check with your daughter, maybe that she was definitely checking CCM on Accept’d and not confusing it with some other school??? It’s all so overwhelming and difficult to keep straight. None of this has any bearing, of course, on the frosty reception over the phone.

I also went back and checked. My DD got her CCM audition details through her CCM portal, and I did note that they specifically say to check back 7 days before the audition, as times might change, although they “try” to keep times close. And there was both a singing/monologue audition and a dance call scheduled, at two different times (this is for NYC unifieds).

Sorry all, She did mean the portal!! She got the original time in late Oct after we got everything in. When they originally gave her the time, her page was not full of info. When she checked today, the page was full but her time was changed. And the time of the dance was listed.

@CTDramaMom Now this dance call conflicts with her other “big” audition and they said for $100.00 she could change it. She was thinking of just showing up to the dance call on Friday if there is one. The guy on the phone was totally uninterested in her.

@mtmcmt I agree that they certainly should have handled it better with you. I’m keeping a close eye on it now, as my DD, of course, has other auditions scheduled at Unifieds that day. I hope it all works out for you!

Similar thing happened with us 3 years ago. Not CCM but another school. We were super organized and got our requested audition time in early with this school. Was so proud of the pieces of the puzzle all fitting! We were told the audition would be in the afternoon, which was perfect because we were staying with family an hour away and going to a show the night before. Kind of last minute got a confirmation and the time was now morning and it required us to be there super early which would have meant getting up at 4:30 AM. I called them and was told that because it was a holiday (MLK Day) a LOT of people had requested the same day, so they added a morning audition group and randomly assigned people. No amount of pointing out that we had requested this day months earlier when the application first opened and had been told it would be in the afternoon, made a difference. They would not even consider a possible switch with someone who might prefer morning, or put us on a waiting list if someone dropped out of an afternoon slot. Inotherwords, complete indifference, not even any emotion in the person’s voice, and the vibe was, “We have the upper hand here, take it or leave it.” We left it.

I worry about one audition going late and how the next audition will handle (even with all the suggested time buffers they give.). My daughter says if a school drops off for logistical reasons then maybe the universe is guiding her somewhere better (for her).

I realize the schools probably have issues with scheduling but really, to be treated crappy is not acceptable. If a school treated us in that manner I would probably let them go. There are other programs where the staff and faculty are lovely. and to be honest I feel like at some point you have to draw the line at being abused by people when the whole process is such a stressful ball of mess! I mean they make you jump through so many hoops to begin with and all for a field where like 15% of graduates have jobs …just sayin… at some point I need some control here folks!!

Here’s the Audition information for the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. They will be in New York and Chicago during Unifieds. In the past, they’ve taken audition reservations and walk-ins. My son is a 2nd year MT major there-- message me if you have any Qs.

Thanks @SU88BFA - I know my daughter is intrigued by the possibility of going abroad so we’ll check it out (don’t know if I can handle her being over there, though!)

@WTXMom - yes, they are far away, but with texting and FaceTime, he seems much closer. He only comes home during December break, but he loves the Int’l city environment. (School is in Glasgow-- Scotland’s largest city with at least 25,000 students studying there in other schools.)

Note: RCS’ BA MT program is only a 3-year program, and the tuition is reasonable, compared to many US schools… Granted, cost-of-living and airfare add up, but they’re not bank-breaking numbers. Small scholarships (around $4K/yr) have been given to American students in the past.

The program is listed as a BA, but it is a true conservatory environment. (BFAs aren’t offered in the UK). The school aims to graduate quadruple threats. Freshmen do not perform in any major shows. There are 18 MT students in his year-- so classes are small. They actively recruit 2-3 Americans for each year class.

Is there any “type” of American that RCS looks for or are the 2-3 just part of their whole mix? Ethnic diversity?

@1998parent15 - I think they are looking for the Americans to round-out their class mix, and provide international diversity for the UK/EU students.

Anyone else watching the weather for NYC? Nothing like adding one more challenge into the mix…

@emdpraze 5-10" of snow Friday into Saturday…hope that looks better as we get closer!

Chicago weather right now- no snow, had some a week ago but it all melted. But it’s been 0 degrees out for the past few days, and doesn’t appear to be be changing anytime soon.

Is there anyone going to NYC for Unifieds this coming weekend?

We will be in NYC for D’s artistic review at NYU Tisch, but not going to be participating in Unifieds b/c we’re treating it more like a fun trip that just happens to include an audition (we’re going to Chicago Unifieds). I did not realize snow was in the forecast.

My D has one audition at official Unifieds (U at Buffalo) and one nearby (Ithaca). She’s also going to the open call on Friday, so at least we will get to NYC before the storm. I’m driving and nervous about that!

Yeah I’m heading to NYC early too in hopes of avoiding the storm. Kinda wish the snow would’ve waited a week LOL
