Unified Auditions

So, I wanted to know what are the hardest universities to get into from the unified auditions?

All of them….

@bisouu is right.

I’ve crunched a lot of numbers and I don’t think I’ve found anything over a 20% acceptance rate - and I’d consider that REALLY good odds.

Most of the programs accept well under 10% of people that audition. And a lot of schools are under 5%.

Kamamom is right. What are you looking for? Are you trying to avoid the “most” selective (which are often referred to here as “lottery schools”) or are you seeking those out? Not sure where you are in the process. Seems like you are interested in straight theater and MT since you posted this question on both forums, but I can tell you that you want to spend a LOT of time thinking about your list of schools, and making sure you have a variety of options

@Carolcbp, I may be misinterpreting your question, but…the difficulty of getting into a school doesn’t change depending on whether you audition at unifieds or on campus. It really doesn’t matter where you audition…if it did, people would be flocking to the audition venue where it was easier, and abandoning the venue where it was harder. That being said, the three schools that admit the highest percentage of those that audition (based only on # accepted/#auditioned) are NYU, BoCo, and Rider. Keep in mind, though, that this does not mean these schools are easy to get into or any less prestigious. But their acceptance rate is higher than some of the other schools who have much smaller class numbers.

This question comes up a lot and there are many old threads related to this topic. Here are a few of them, if you use the search function, you will find more:

Remember that schools that have larger class sizes may also see a far larger number of auditionees. There was a whole round of conversation about this that I have no desire to revive, but if you look at the numbers of cc students on this year’s thread- there are similar numbers to many other programs. They don’t seem to have double or triple the number of students as other schools. As always, we have to remember that cc is a subset of the population - but it’s not like there are 20+acceptances listed for each of boco/rider/NYU (which I list only b/c they were in the post above) and way fewer for all other schools. A very quick (and unscientific- I did not count) perusal of acceptances show schools like Hartt, OCU, point park, u arts, ithaca and ohio northern with similar numbers to some of those schools- again, based on our population

Thanks for providing the links EmsDad. There is so much information, objective and subjective about selectivity on this forum that you can search and be reading threads for hours. In the end, other people’s experience may have very little impact on your own results. Be prepared, create a varied list of audition schools and safety schools you would be happy to attend and can afford, and go out there and show the school what you have to offer. :slight_smile:

I agree. One of the most interesting parts of reading the final decisions background thread (which I would highly recommend to the OP, not just this year’s but going back a couple years) is how extraordinary the “randomness” is. Almost every post I have ever seen - kids who get into “top” programs (whatever your definition of that may be) are NOT accepted at schools that “seem” farther down the pecking order.
