Sorry; it loos like I may be monopolizing CC, but I thought that it might be useful to share info. on the upcoming unifieds. In particular, I have found that schools differ in the length of time that they require for the audition. It may be helpful to share information, so that those of us trying to schedule as many as three per day can do so. So far, I know this:
DePaul: requires full four hours, so they schedule two blocks per day
Guthrie: audition/interview is 15 minutes

Otterbein is 15 minutes.

NYU 4 hours; Ithaca 4 hours; Julliard 4 hours; USC 4 hours; NCSA 30 minute intro then 10 minute audition (which they assign ahead of time - not like the other previously named schools); Rutgers 15 minutes (not really specified - but they assign a specific time ); SUNY 15 minutes.

Let's hear it for the 15 minute schools - or those like NSCA that assign your time within that 4 hour waiting period before you show up!!!

Does anyone know the time length of BU and whether they give specific times? Their reserve system suggests that they schedule large blocks of time.

Evansville: assigns specific time, but I do not know the length, though, given the time assigned, I assume that it runs 15 minutes

BU asks kids (but I am not sure if this is true at Unifieds) to schedule a three hour block.

The audition times posted here are what I am getting too. We were given a specific time for Purchase but do not how long it is supposed to last. We have applied to Otterbein several weeks ago but have not heard about a time yet. I am wondering if there is something else we are supposed to do. Thought we were all set with Point Park but now they want a photograph before they will schedule us a time, which I think is really weird. I think those that give you a specific time are shorter. We have an overlap with Ithaca and DePaul - when I talked to Ithaca about it, they said once the audition is over with, we could leave - it just depends on when he auditions. They sort of messed us up - told me when I first signed that the one in DC on Jan. 19 was in the afternoon, so we scheduled another one in the morning Then they said it was in the am, so now we are trying to squeeze them in the morning in NY. Then they said it was at the Grier studio, where DePaul's is, so I thought that would work. Now theyu say it is at Nolan studio, a different location. So I am not too pleased with the way they do this. About BU, if you check to see status of your audition and it says "pending" - that is normal. I emailed them about that since ours has been pending for a while now. Confirmation will come sometime in January.

Is it possible that you filled out an application for admission, but did not then send an e-mail to our audition coordinator? The process is explained on this page:

Otterbein College Admission Office - Department of Theatre and Dance Auditions and Awards

And here's what some of the copy says:

"Once you have applied for admission to Otterbein, you may make an appointment for your BFA audition in Acting or Musical Theatre by sending an e-mail to hhill@otterbein.edu. Please put the requested audition date in the subject heading of your e-mail. In the body of the e-mail, please include your name, the degree you are interested in, your mailing address, telephone number and indicate whether you have applied to the school."

Harriet responds within 24 hours to all e-mails, unless for some reason our server has put it in her spam folder. Putting the audition date you're requesting into the subject header will help her sort the real e-mails from the spam.

If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to contact me directly. My e-mail link is at the left.

Hope this helps.

Thanks doctorjohn. I will try that.

hcpss, I am a little confused by your post. Are you trying to get from an audition in New York on 1/19 to Washington, DC for an Ithaca audition? That might be tough, though I guess you could make it if you rushed. I spoke today with the scheduling person at Ithaca about the 1/19 DC date, and she said that acting and musical theater are going to be held in the a.m., because they do design and tech interviews in the afternoon. Thanks, too, for clearing up the business about BU confirming. My D scheduled her BU audition for 1/31 in NY, and it still says "pending confirmation." By the way, I think that studio is NY is called NOLA.

For NCSA, when do you do the 30 min introduction? We have been given an audition time; however, there has been no indication that we need to be there earlier for an intro.

BU assigns you to a 3-hour block at Unifieds.

letsfigureitout: When you say that BU assigns a 3-hour block, are you referring to the time that you set-up via their web page - we did that - or did they confirm or notify a more specific time?

Yes, you're right! You sign up for a 3-hr block of time. We called. They could not be more specific. . .The expectation is that you arrive at the beginning of the "block" and stay through your audition time. They recommended NOT scheduling other auditions during that 3-hr block.

Maybe they want students to stay around to be called back during that three hour period.

Do we have to have everything into NCARTS (Test scores, references) before they give us a specific time. The application is in (which includes the requested date), but I was curious whether they want everything first. NCARTS says that they do not want you to call or e-mail them.

Likewise, my S sent the application in for Purchase and Rutgers. Both indicate that they contact us re: the audition time. Does anyone know whether the application to the university (central admissions) is sufficient, or whether all materials must first be received. Has anyone directly contacted Rutgers and Purchase to set up Unified times? Thanks

Brian, for Purchase to send an audition time, your son must first complete his application to the school and all transcripts must be received. He will then be sent a postcard (through snail mail) on which he will be given the choice of a number of dates. (They do not allow you to choose times or time periods.) He will fill that out, send it back with a fee and a self addressed, stamped envelope, and Purchase will respond with a letter as to the date and time (and in the case of Unifieds) place he will audition. Purchase allows kids to change their audition time ONCE before they charge you for doing so. They won't let you contact them for audition times. You HAVE to go through that system.

Brian: For Rutgers, you send in the general application to the college. It finds its way through the system to Mason-Gross. Then, they send you (snail mail) a Theater Questionnaire that you fill out (several questions, some biographical info). On that Questionnaire, you request a date for the audition. They only list dates; however, we requested an "afternoon" time by just writing it in, and we got it. You then return the Questionnaire, with a check for the audition fee (again via snail mail), and they respond with an audition date (via e-mail this time). The audition time is just listed as 2:00 PM. I did call them at one point and was told that they "didn't think" there would be call-backs at the off-site locations, although if there were call-backs, they would be "in the evening." The audition would be only 15 minutes or so. My son applied mid-October, and everything was wrapped up and scheduled by mid-November.

Brian: I do believe that you must have everything in to NCSA before they will schedule the audition. My son applied VERY early in September, and we received several notes that Letters, Transcripts, Counselor's Signature Forms, etc. had not been received. Once all that stuff was in (around the end of September/beginning of October), we received a letter that gave the audition time (this letter came October 11). There apparently is an info session (required), and you also get an audition time. The audition will last 10 minutes. You may leave after the audition, and there ARE NO CALL BACKS. All of this is stated in the letter.

I did call them several times to check on materials; they prefer e-mails, though.

It looks like schools stop auditioning around 5PM. Has anyone scheduled an evening time? Surely, the program attendees need to call it a day at some point.

Some acting programs ask that you sing 16 bars from MT. Some say that they provide accompaniment (not at unifieds), so bring sheet music. My S is a decent singer, but we would rather track down/pay for the sheet music for the song he wants to sing. Can he just say, hey, I can do it without accompaniment? Would that be viewed as inappropriate - not following the rules?
