Unifieds

soozievt: Agree. I wish public universities would band together as many LACs have, and create a common application, with all sorts of bells and whistles that help the applicant and school know what communications have been transacted.

There are 46 kids in my S's class, and things got mixed up! Transcripts went out with errors, of all things. And that's something that is hard to catch, as they want those transcripts sealed tight. Ask for an "unofficial copy" to check and to carry with you--it's helpful for when you need to fill out papers at auditions, anyway. Yes, check everything again and again.

About time to boot this to the top again. Is anyone auditioning at Chicago Unifieds with DePaul? S's audition begins at 8AM at Reskin theatre (assume this is near campus). Then the auditioners walk across the street to Chicago Hilton, which is different from the Palmer House Hilton. We are staying at the Palmer House. According to the map, the Reskin Theater is about five blocks from the Palmer House. I have not been in Chicago since about 1985. Is the distance a quarter, half, or more mile?

Just wanted to say 'good luck' to those headed to Unifieds in NY or Chicago, etc. I will be glad when we go to our last audition Feb. 17. Then we wait, and wait, and wait (as the intro to 'Casablanca' puts it).

Thanks for the good wishes, brian! My D and I head to New York on Thursday for another series of her auditions. I am looking forward to meeting other CC parents and kids, hint, hint. (Anyone who plans to be there and wants to say "hi" in real life, PM me, please.) So far, one of the best things about this process (besides spending so much time with my kid) is meeting so many amazingly lovely kids and parents. I knew theater kids were nice, but I have to say that I am truly astonished by how amazingly sweet and supportive of each other they are. (Of course, there are exceptions. My D has met at least one braggart at each audition.) Break legs, everyone!

Just curious. . .what's it like being in the same hotel with all those kids who are auditioning and faculty members who are judging????? Do you run into each other and have conversations in the halls--or, is everyone just too busy for that?

Hang in there everyone. . .this is the "home stretch!"

letsfigureitout, that's a good question! Maybe someone who went through this last year will pipe up and let us know what it's like. I will find out soon enough, however! :) My guess is that there is a mix of being too-busy-to-talk and conversations. One nice thing about being at a hotel is that if you're staying there, you can retreat to your room if the socializing is getting to be too much, I suppose. :)
