@LucieTheLakie I went back and visited them both. I thought that Union had better professors and might be a better school than Gettysburg, but I felt like I fit in socially at Gettysburg more than Union.
Flip a coin!
(If you feel relief, you’ll know you made the right choice. Otherwise, flip again!)
Honestly, academically they’re peers.
The only difference academically is that Union is stronger for science and Gettysburg stronger doe humanities and social science.
Do the ‘flip a coin’ trick suggested by LucietheLakie
Look at the Niche ratings on campus, food , local area and housing. They are very accurate.
Find out about study abroad and internship opportunities. I seem to recall Gettysburg had some programs in D.C. which might appeal for political science. Are study abroad programs covered by your scholarship? What % of students go abroad and where? Also if law school is something you’re thinking about how are acceptance rates? We visited Gettysburg and liked. My neice went to Union, double majored, studied abroad and had good experience. I like the coin flip thing. Have you joined accepted students fb pages for both? That can help (or further confuse!) too. Let us know what you decide.
Would you mind telling us your stats
For Poli sci/ history, Gettysburg would have the edge
@NJperson3675309 Of course! My stats are:
ACT: 33
GPA: 4.1 w and 3.65 uw
I’ve taken 6 APs.
If you have any other questions, just let me know.
Basically a toss up. Gettysburg slightly better for humanities, but not enough to be decisive. Gettysburg has somewhat better weather and a nicer setting. Union has Division 1 hockey and engineering. Center of gravity for Gettysburg students is Pa, NJ and Maryland. Union is more NY, NJ and MA/CT. Gettysburg more greek life than Union.
I don’t know one way or the other about Greek life, but I’ve been told by more than one adult that, for a LAC, Union students do some pretty hard partying.
I too have heard that there is a fair amount of partying at Union (which some have said isn’t so bad as Schenectady doesn’t have a lot to offer) but that there is also quite a bit to do that is not frat-party related if that is not to one’s liking. One of the reasons that the school set up its Minerva house system was to provide an alternative to Greek life.
