Unique or off topic?

The topic: Choose an issue of importance to you - the issue could be personal, school related, local, political, or international in scope - and write an essay in which you explain the significance of that issue to yourself, your family, your community, or your generation.

I've decided to write my essay over the chauvinism between genders, or simply, the battle of the sexes. But to add a, what I think to be, refreshing spin on things, I'm relating a lot of it back to childhood "cooties" and how this feared, childhood disease was the early stages of social boundaries between girls and boys. As I write the essay I can't help but think it's just a bit genius (relating something as childish as cooties to a full-on social issue) while remaining a bit goofy (not in the bad way).

But I must know-do you think this essay sounds completely off topic? Or do you agree that it would be a refreshing twist on a rather serious topic? I'm really leaning on this essay to get me into universities, so it has to be on point!

Thank you in advance!

Edit: And I also fear that it might not be personal enough. However, I think the playfulness of the undertones show a lot about me. But a admissions officer might not jump to that conclusion.

It sounds good.
