Academics:
Small, very difficult high school
No AP classes/class ranks
-I've taken a total of 10 honors
-WGPA: 3.60/5.00 (only way to get a 5.00 is taking 5 honors all 4 yrs w/ all A's )
-UW GPA: 3.20/4.00
-Senior grades: 4.40/5.00 (4 honors)
-ACT: 33 - E:29, M:31, R:35, S:36,
-Favorite subjects- Science and Studio Art (plan on continuing both in college) -also submitting an Art Portfolio

Unique circumstance: Legitimate medical circumstance that caused me to miss/be sick for a significant amount of 10th and 11th grade. Impacted grades and most aspects of my life. This is a pretty unique experience- probably 96% of teenagers have/will never experience anything similar. I wrote about this in my essay.

EC: (med. situation took up lots of time)
-passionate/involved in community service
-service rep on student gov in 9th grade
-On tennis team 4yrs
-Camp counselor in the summer
-Teen advisor for a national organization
-a few clubs at school

I’m looking at those schools too! I would love to hear a response on this too
btw Good luck bella315 - I hope you get in everywhere you want to go

Thanks so much for chancing me! Sorry, the only LAC I’m familiar with here is Skidmore. I think you have a very good chance at Skidmore! Your GPA is lower, but that is completely understandable due to your circumstances. I think they will see your ACT score and realize that you are naturally very intelligent, and they won’t hold your GPA against you. I think it will also be impressive to them that you’ve remained focused and involved in a solid grouping of ECs despite medical issues. Good luck!!

Are you in the top10%? top quarter? I know you said the hs doesn’t rank but you still might know this.
I would say you have a good shot at most of them with Hamilton, Con College, Franklin Marshall being reaches depending on your medical circumstance and whether the colleges appreciate that your hs is “difficult.” Union is safe.

@milkweed I honestly have no clue. My hs is extremely competitive which makes it even harder to tell- its in the top 175 private highschools in the country- and within the top 10 of my state. So it is very challenging, hopefully schools will take that into consideration, none of our classes our considered “an easy A”. Ive done interviews at almost all of them also- most seemed very understanding about the medical circumstance. But thats what makes it tricky for me to tell where I lie with these schools. Thanks again!

Well your guidance counselor likely has a clue. My kids’ school doesn’t rank but they provide a plot to colleges that shows all of their students gpas so I’m sure colleges can determine their approximate rank. Does your school have Naviance? IF so, you can see where students with your gpa and scores were accepted/rejected.

Bell315, I am only familiar with F&M, Hamilton and Muhlenberg. Of those three, Muhlenberg looks like a great fit. They have a great history with students with medical issues and disabilities. If you haven’t done the official admissions tour and interview, make sure you do. They seem to really place a lot of value on getting to know their potential students before deciding who to admit. F&M and Hamilton are both very good LAC’s but when we looked at them a few years ago they didn’t seem to have the same commitment that Muhlenberg has to be more inclusive. Congratulations on your accomplishments and best of luck to you!

@beenthereanddone Thanks, yeah Muhlenberg definitely seems to take a strong interest in their applicants.I have done a tour and interview- I’ve actually done those at most of the schools! Also, how much of a reach do you think Hamilton will be for me, they seem to be the most competitive on my list, but I’ve been so close to it for so long, its hard for me to tell.

-Muhlenberg = good match, continue to express interest
-Conn College = high match, but likely
-Union (NY) = match
-F&M = match
-Skidmore = reach/high match
-Hamilton = reach

Union is the outlier - vey different in vibe and culture than the others.
You may want to add Dickinson.

Do you have 2 safeties (schools you like, can afford, and know you can get into?)

@MYOS1634 haha I actually applied to Dickinson already (EA), so I left it off my list because it wasn’t necessary. Muhlenberg is more of less a “safety” I mean I never chose a safety or anything but after my interview with them the assistant admissions dean told me “he doesn’t make the final decision but he will definitely recommend me”. so I guess that is my safest one.

What makes Union an outlier? Can you explain a little more about that, currently I’m leaning towards Union, F&M and Muhlenberg - so If you have any incites/opinions about it’s differences I would love to hear it!
