I am posting this question here b/c I think many of you may be concerned too....

Most of the UCs allow you to transfer 70 transferable units toward graduation....does that mean technically if you do another 50 units there then you can graduate...?? But I heard from some of my friends who already transferred that they still require you to do another 60 units once you transfer no matter how many units you got in cc...which means you cannot only do 50 units after transfer...is this true? I am hoping someone who already transferred may offer some help or suggestions...

Also, I heard that for UCLA they don't transfer your units equivalently...that being said, you only transfer your math class for 4 quarter units (b/c it counts 4 quarter units in UCLA) even though the math class may worth 5 semester units in you cc....anyone doing research for this? Suppose that everyone wants to graduate asap....

Okay I talked with my CC counselor yesterday about this, she works in the transfer center and graduated from a UC.

She said that it all depends on you major. For example my major is sociology and because I’m transferring with 70 units AND I will have ALL lower division requirements completed for my major I will only need to take the 50 units to graduate, but for a student transferring without all pre-major or major prep completed they may still have to do more work than I do.

And again it does all depend on majors and which UC you transfer to.

She told me I’d finish in 5 quarters and recommended I find a minor to do and do that so I get the most bang for my buck and because otherwise I’d finish early and have to wait the rest of the academic year to transfer to a law school.

So I hope that helped!

@Matt4200 Thank you!! That helps a lot! So which means if I plan well, its possible to earn the degree by taking only another 50 right?.. cuz I really want to get out asap… Hope we can both do great jobs in academic planning after transferring :D

Yeah, use assist.org and go to the website of the UC you want to go to and just look up the major requirements for the BA it’s pretty easy :)

@Matt4200 Thank you!! :)

50 units? Isnt the minimum 180 quarter units to graduate from a UC? Withe the 70 (105 quarter units), you’d still need at least 75 more quarter units to graduate, not 50.

75 qu=18.75 courses (4 units usually)

Thats about a year and a half at a UC

75 quarter units is the equivalent of 50 semester units.
