Both are top 50 schools. Both are excellent publics. Both are huge at 40,000+ students. Both have relatively good honors programs. Both have good football. Both have good offers for NMS. So what's the difference? Which one is better? Whice programs does UF excel at and which programs does UT-A excel at?

I think you should go to UT. You will meet many connections and its a school that everyone is familiar school. This might just be me..but i didn't know that UF was a top university like UT.BUT if you like Florida and the beach n stuff go there man

UT is better in engineering, bidness, and communications. The rest are probably similar. Austin>>Gainesville which kinda sux.

Seeing as you live in Orlando, unless you moved there recently and are a non-resident I would go to UF. UT-A is good, but UF is good as well, and I don't think that you should sacrifice the much cheaper in-state tuition for shelling out big bucks to go to UT, unless you are completely financially secure. In that case it's a toss-up depending on what you want to do.

Because of National Merit, I pretty much get a full ride at either school. I didn't like the big feel of UF, but I assume any school over 30k students has the huge feel so I wouldn't think there would be a huge difference between UF's 40,000 and UT-A's 50,000.

I am considering a major in Advertising or Marketing. I want to minor in psychology.

Which school has a nicer campus? Better food? Better atmosphere? Better academics? Better dorms? Better honor program?

:-)

I'd say UT to all those except maybe dorms. Most UT kids live off campus asap.

UT is a better school and austin is an awesome town =D i think its a better choice =D more collegey

UT NM scholarship is no more than one half their tuition unless you're out of state and then they wave the out-of-state portion.

I'm out of state. I'm under the impression that I would pay no tuition, only for room and board and recieve the $1000 to go towards that. Is this correct?

From the way I read it it looks like you pay in-state tuition instead, and then get a $1000 scholarship in addition to having the extra out-of-state fees waived.

In state tuition and fee are $6,786 this year at the University of Texas. The NMF scholarship is $4,000 the first year and $3,000 each year there after.

I admit that they're moving to a flat rate schedule that makes it appear someone taking 15 hours would pay $3459 per semester (School of Natural Sciences), but I'm not sure I completely follow what the things I see they're saying.

Academically, I don't think you can go wrong with either choice. Either will get you into a top-flight graduate or professional school assuming you do well. At UF you likely would live in Hulme hall, which is a great dorm, centrally located, and within easy walking distance of all your classes.

if you don't like the big feel of Florida ....UT is BIG....? check out some other places...if you want smaller state schools how about UVA or UNC?

i don't really want state schools, but those seem to be the only ones that offer good scholarships for national merit.

my top choices are duke and furman, however my parents can't afford to pay more than $10,000 a year, however I don't qualify for much need based aid (I got a total of $6,000 a year from Boston College).

i will probably end up at UF if i don't get much money from the other schools i applied to, but i really like mid sized schools (6,000-10,000) and i really would like an ice skating rink nearby.
