Ut Austin vs. U of Florida

I am debating between these two schools. I mean, to me, it seems like they are almost exactly the same. Great sports, great party scene, solid academics, great college towns, and most of all hot girls(j/k)! Is there any major difference between the two schools that could sway me one way or the other? Thanks!

have you been accepted to either that could be one major factor.....otherwise its a preference florida has nicer beaches lol

I used to live in Gainseville and UF is pretty awesome. The town is amazing. The whole community is involved with the school and is very supportive. Not to mention they have a kick-ass football team with a great stadium, haha. But one deciding factor is if you like "city life" or "suburban-esque" i mean you have the same basic feel on campus except Florida seems more... open if you will. Its not a school inside a city. But yeah, you'll have a great time at both places so if you're accepted to both and don't care about major/sports don't go to UF if you can't stand humidity, haha. Seriously its HOT. Not that austin isn't its just the stinking humidity. But i'd put 'em at a tie almost.

I'm from Florida, have been a Gator fan all my life, got accepted, but will probably attend Texas if I'm accepted. I guess it just depends. Obviously you're from New York so it's hard to say. I'd flip a coin.

My older s goes to UF, my middle s is going to UT next year...

My s who is at UF LOVES it! It truly is a college town, in fact, it kind of reminds me of what Austin was like 20+ years ago before the population exploded. In Gainesville, almost everyone has some ties to the college so they are very tolerant of the crazy college stuff that goes on. The town goes nuts over the success of the sports teams and it is all encouraged and accepted. The downtown area, just down University Ave., has lots of fun bars, restaurants, clubs, etc. and the Greek scene (if that's what your into) is thriving. My older s is not a fraternity type guy, he is a surfer, finds the music scene to be good, although to see the bigger acts, he goes either to Jacksonville or Orlando. The beaches are beautiful, St. Augustine, a prime surf spot is about 1 1/2 away and they spend many weekends camping there when the weather warms up. It is a different lifestyle than Austin, a little slower paced and laid back, but a great college experience.

Austin has a fantastic music scene - SxSW and Austin City Limits being two of the best festivals in the country, plus all of the venues available for touring bands and local talent. The city has tons of restaurants, bars, etc. The Greek scene is big and fun. My younger s wants to go to UT because he wants to be closer to home, wants to live in Texas after he graduates, and wants to be a Longhorn the worlds worst way!!

Like Kep said, the difference is "city life" or "suburban-esque". The people are nice in both cities and kind of similar, it seems to me.

As for the education, they are both, imo, great state schools with great reputations, and you will make of your education what you will. Both will give good opportunities. If you definitely plan on making Texas your home, you might prefer UT because of the alumni network.

I may have lost my older s forever to Florida - he loves it there :(
