bird rock – my son is a senior at Rice this year and he still refers to O-Week as the most fun week he’s ever had in his entire life! And by the end of the week he knew every single freshman in his residential college as well as lots of upperclassmen. They’re definitely doing something right at Rice.

XU, you are at Xavier, DDs are at Marquette, I have heard they have one at Creighton . . . maybe it’s a Jesuit thing? :)

Perhaps. The long-standing, time-honored Jesuit tradition of the square dance. Just picture St. Ignatious and St. Francis Xavier doing the square dance together lol. =P

I spoke to my son briefly last night after O-week ended. Sounds like they’re doing as well as they were three years ago. If anything they may have scheduled too much. .

The only change I would suggest is that there should also be an equivalent week for parents. We’re paying the bills, why should they have all the fun?

At Rice, they also have one evening during the Orientation Week where each freshman is invited to the home of a professor for dinner. I saw an article on the Rice website that the mayor of Houston hosted a small group of students for dinner at her home on that evening since she is an alumna of Rice. I thought that must have been pretty interesting for those students.
