welcome wk events

first of all, are there any that i should dress nicer such as the bruin bash dance?

are any of the events time-killers just to keep us occupied b4 school begins? if so, i can always hang out at my relatives house not too far away and be a party pooper!

to older bruins: do u recommend a specific event? why?

i'll list events 4u just for reference:
housing vendor fair
sunset's love for luau outs
bruin bash: concert, dance, movie
activities fair @ IM field
new student welcome @ pauley
all building mtg
games, games, games
hedrick ct commotion-the greatest show in the world
carnival in the quad @ deneve quad
all hill bruin res festival @ wooden ctr
jiggy in the jungle @ rieber ct

Yes, they're partially there to keep you occupied... and to keep you entertained and social.

You're not mandated to attend these events. If you want to go to your relatives', who would stop you?

Definitely check out the activities fair! Also, if you're thinking of going Greek, look up dates and times of events and rush period so you don't miss out.

Last year, Xzibit was the Bruin Bash concert. I don't think people enjoyed that so much... T.I. is this year. If you're interested, check it out.

Bruin Bash Dance? Dances are dances. Casual clothing. Look nice. W/E.

TI!!!!

wut you know about that, wut you know about that?

i know all about that

ooh..are the dances a little awkward cuz students don't know each other as well? w/e i LOVE dances! i'll prolly go anyway. is the bruin bash dominated by freshmen?

I would go to the events to make friends than for what the event actually was. I'm skipping everything this year like I did last year and just extending my vacation until the night before actual classes start. As an aside, they'll advertise the "all building meeting" as "mandatory" for all residents but they're excruciatingly boring and not mandatory at all although that term does seem to scare the first years into actually showing up

jyancy, would i get penalized if i didn't go to the dorm meeting? do u advise me to go? well i guess i should in case there are important things...

Actually the RA does take roll, but there's not a **** thing they can do if you decide not to show. I made the mistake of going my very first year because I was an idiot and didn't listen to the second year students on my floor that just went out to play basketball instead- you will not miss anything important. My very first year they went over obvious safety stuff and did some stupid ridiculous skits that were a complete utter waste of time (and probably money that they took from some of the steep housing fees you paid)

good, thanks for the tip! when is this RA meeting anyway?

You're welcome. :)

is the RA meeting called the "all building meeting" on monday, sept 24? it starts at 6pm.

Possibly! Do you have other plans in mind that would prevent you from attending this oh-so important meeting? If so, screw that damned meeting! Forget about it! Otherwise, what's the point of worrying? You'll get the answers and awareness eventually... most likely when everyone else on your floor gets the same messages... unless you MUST be somewhere at 6pm on the 24th of September at which point the already established arbitrary and useless meeting would not be of any importance to you and so you wouldn't be worrying about it unless you wanted another stripe of anxiety on your face.

lol i don't hafta be anywhere. so i guess i'm going. :( however there's an event in SAC tho i can go to if i want.

You'll learn that when they say mandatory, they really just mean that they want you to come.

Basketball! I'll be at sunset if they haven't taken the courts down :D

Why would it matter? You would eventually be taken down...

also for the recruitment events for sororities during welcome week, are they really biased towards their own sorority? is there pressure to join in those events? i'm not sure if i'm gonna go greek but i just wanna check different sororities out to see which is right for me. or if i am totally not a greek student.

In terms of the Greek system, can someone (who knows) list the characteristics of someone who would and would not be inclined to engage (based on personality, goals, etc.) in the Greek system? Thanks.

Who would Benefit/be privy to join a Greek system:

Who would not:

O, and btw, what's the dance like?
