Would love to hear some stories about receiving brochures and other literature in the mail... What did you like, what didn;t you like?

I though that this http://img180.imageshack.us/img180/453/lastscannx5.jpg from Jacksonville University was kind of strange

that came from Jacksonville University???

I like when the college promptly sends a nice viewbook with plenty of information. I know those mailings cost a lot, but it's so much nicer to peruse a glossy brochure than a webpage.

Then there are those that make it difficult to request information from their website; or even worse, will not mail you anything even if you call and ask (UNC-CH).

oregonianmom, it is definitely nice to see the glossy viewbooks to have something "real" to hold and go back to... You can download a PDF of UNC-CH's viewbook and other materials at http://admissions.unc.edu/viewbook/ , it doesn't give the same effect..

Thought it was helpful when Grinnell sent me a course catalog. Thought it gave me a different perspective of what the college could offer me academically and how it could meet my interests (and it saved me the trouble of searching for the same info on the internet).

I didn't get much literature besides a flimsy "view vook" from OSU, but I got tons of letters from LACs trying to woo me.

Thanks so much for the input everyone it is greatly appreciated... OF the viewbooks and such what ones have been the best and why?

They all started to blend together to me until I got one from Williams College...
It was basically a satire on other college's brochures; the front cover showed students outside and said "Of outdoor classes conducted on American college campuses, percent occurring only in viewbook photos: 90" They managed to give a thorough overview of the college using similar humorous statistics.

I hate it when schools i will never even consider send me crap. I got all this mail from LACs and I will never go to one

i've thrown out 2 13gallon bags of mailings..if i ever see another brochure i think i might cry..............

I'm a senior in highschool and i got a college brochure from Franklin Pierce yesterday...... 0o0o0ok? a little late.

i got a ton of stuff from vanderbilt. before they started sending me things, i never considered applying. i received 3 DVDs, 8 brochures, and 3 paper applications. i certainly hope they accept me .. :p

boston college sent 3 identical viewbooks to almost all their applicants. the funny thing is that it was randomly spread out from last fall too this march. If you go to BC forum you'll see what i mean.
I liked wesleyan's brochures and gwu sent a thin brochure in a metallic envelope. nyu sent random viewbooks that were about random stuff.

I loved UChicago's The Life of the Mind and their syllabus. JHU had a fantastic viewbook.

I hated getting mail from WashU- receiving letters from Nanette Tarbouni got really tiresome.

Hey farock, I got that GWU one too, so cool! And that interesting postcard from texas a&m. I just got this pop-up brochure from...eastern washington university or something. weird.

Ive gotten 6 large envelopes with brochures from each degree program, and four separate paper applications from Johnson and Wales, extreeeemely annoying.

And, my friend is going to Puget Sound, and we point out that everyone in the brochure is very odd-looking. Just a strange group of students to put in a college brochure.

anyone else hate those fake handwritten postcards....like uw,bc,lynchburg etc.

How Bout Photos, what kind of images do you like and what kind you hate... (ie, the one on the cover with 1 caucasian, 1 african american, 1 asian, and 1 hispanic student)

Love to hear students thoughts on this

i like the more realistic photos or photos that give a better idea of how life is at that college. For example I really enjoyed a brochure on housing that showed many different pictures of dorms.

Yeah, the view books that actually had views instead of politically correct photos of students were much more enjoyable/informative.
