Hey this year I am a sophomore at a highly ranked public high school. I am going to be taking classes at a local university (contemporary psychology and biology). I was wondering if next year it would be better to take level 200-300 classes in psychology or get into an internship at a hospital or college? By "better" I mean both in terms of what I will learn and how it will look on college applications.

yeah i am basically concerned about the same thing…I am interested in Poly Sci, and I am taking some college summer courses this coming summer. Meanwhile I am looking for interns involved in Poly Sci. But you know there are TONS of undergraduates and even graduates who can’t even get in those interns…so yeah im guessing im looking for more likely “volunteering” work lol
yeah sorry for saying all those random stuff but I suggest you prolly want to try both? I think colleges would like that

Yea but I don’t think I can do both because I already volunteer every summer at the ICU at a local hospital. So that on top of 2 semi-intense psych classes might be too much. along with summer hockey/work :/

Yeah I’m going into poly sci for college and tried to get a few internships…obviously I failed. Guess the college students got them all, so it’s work and volunteering this summer.

Where are you applying DRNiko?

For college? Honestly there aren’t a lot of colleges I’d want to go to, right now I only have UIC, University of San Francisco, and American University in mind.

what are some good internship/volunteer experiences for poly sci anyway?
someone told me to try volunteer in NGOs but I dont see how it would help me to study Poly Sci…any ideas? :)

Oh for Connor10, if you want to take those college level classes so badly…I guess you can try some online programs? A lot of colleges have those online courses. It’s better to continue doing one thing (for you it’s probably volunteer at that ICU place…), and colleges like that consistency

Thanks for the advice. I think I am definitely going to just try staying consistent next year with volunteering and working (at a medical supplies company) and then taking classes like Social Psych or Statistics/Research Design. Do universities look well upon dual enrollment in high school?

im not so sure what dual enrollment is exactly. But i know if you are doing what you truly love, and show great passion and consistency on it. colleges would really like that good luck on everything!

Thanks! Dual Enrollment is just the name of the program where high school kids take University classes either after their sophomore or junior years (or both). you can take any classes you want as long as you have the prereqs done. That basically means you have to take the intro classes then if u do it next year like im planning on you can take 200/300 courses.

oh wow thats so cool! I am sure they like it if you take college classes (they like when you take challenging courses!) i am interested in that too now haha…do u have any more info abt that? or where to find some Dual Enrollment programs?? Thanks Connor10 :)

Hey sorry I didn’t get back to you earlier. If you want info on dual-enrollment contact a few local universities and ask them about it. The three closest to me all offer it so I just chose the one that had classes I liked.
