University Honors Program

Can somepone pelase explain to me how the honors admissions work. So I apply and if I dont get into the honors program, can I still be eligible for the regular university program?, and if I do get admitted into the honors program, can I opt out?

I would contact the school and ask. Don´t quote me on this and don´t assume I am correct and go forward with it, but I believe you would just get into the regular school if you apply for the honors program and don´t get in without issue. As for opting out, I don´t see why you can´t. It requires certain courses and service commitments so keep that in mind. Also, they make you live with all honors program students. Take that for what it is.

You apply for the honors program with your common app. It’s an extra essay I believe. It’s a very hard program to get into, but it’s worth applying. I think that you’re evaluated first for acceptance into the univeristy then for the honors program. If you have really good grades/sat’s/extra curriculars/community service and aren’t accepted, you’ll probably be offered a nice merit scholarship anyway. The only potential downside is that honors housing is on the vern and if you want to live on foggy bottom that could be an issue for you.

Yes to both.

Thanks alot for the help and advice I appreciate it

Can anyone tell me if you have to live in the honors dorm if you are accepted into the honors program?

Current honors student here:

 1. Definitely apply! The program is truly awesome and you really get a great community of fellow students. Small classes that cover gen eds, awesome professors, and really indivisualized advising and attention. And yes, you can not get into Honors, but still get into GW

2) No, honors housing is by no means required. You can still live of foggy if you so choose. That said, the freshman honors community on the Vern is THE BEST freshman housing option! Newest dorm, best amenities (gym, cafeteria, blackbox theatre), with the only downside being that it’s not on Foggy. I know many foggy honors people that are trying to get into our dorm (West) for next semester.

Overall, apply  I’m soooooo happy that I did last year.
