What is the honors program? I didn't find out about it until recently and its too late to ask my teacher for a recommendation. Can you apply after you get into the college? Do honors kids get special classes/ dorms?

Honors students can live together in Lafayette Hall if they choose and do have a selection of honors classes. Honors students must choose one honors class per semester. It is possible to apply for and be accepted to honors program after freshman year at GW. My daughter, a freshman at GW is not in honors, but is in the Science Scholars Program. There is an additional essay required to apply for the honors program and an extra teacher recommendation.

they require another teacher rec just for the honors program? i am applying to the ba/md program and that itself requires 2 total. however, i am sending 3-4 more from work. do i need ANOTHER one or will that suffice? i really do not want to end up asking every single teacher i ever had for a rec bc that is what will happen.

CashM88, I believe the two recs you are submitting will suffice, as the honors program requires a rec from a teacher in a major subject who can comment on your writing ability. You are already submitting a rec like that for the BA/MD program and your second rec is required from a sciences teacher. (If need be, make a copy of the rec. and submit it to honors) I expect though that for honors you would need to do the honors essay. It is my understanding that the 7 year med students are housed with med/engineering students and honors students in honors housing. Check with admissions to be sure of exactly what you need (some programs automatically place you in the honors program, but I do not know about the 7 year med program). And good luck with your application.

yeah, same here. i got math recommendation, science recommendation and english recommendatino sent to the school. i originally had only the math and science ones in, and then when i found out i needed an english one, i quickly asked my englihs teacher from sophomre year to write me one and he knows me so he could write it quite quickly. but, there is still time for the deadline. the deadline is tomorrow for the ba/md program if you havent' sent in one from who could comment on writing ability.

i have a rec from my history teacher already... does that count as someone who can comment on writing ability?

yeah. that works, as long as he comments on writing ability. it can be anyone but math or science.

so if i already got my english teacher to write 1 rec for the main school, do i need him or another teacher to write another rec for the Honors program again?...thanks!

Yes, you need to submit an additional teacher recommendation for the honors program application and an additional essay as well. I also believe they ask you to submit a list of books you read during the past year (books that weren't required class reading). At least that was the application last year.

oooh so it would be the same essay, but only another one? =/

nope, it's a different essay. they give u some choices like if u could invite 4 ppl who would they be, and some other choice. I did the 4 ppl one. i don't think you need to submit another recommendation. the ones u give for the noors program satisfy both requirements (school and honors).
