Anyone attending this university currently as an undergrad? I’ve met a few grad students, but not any undergrads yet.

Son is interested in biomedical engineering, and it seems they have a good computer department as well.

Hope to visit the optometry school as well, if possible. Son is fascinated by the equipment at the optometrist’s office and would probably love to design that kind of equipment.

he might also be interested in the science and technology honors program at UAB which would allow him to do research at an undergrad level. UAB is a very good school and actually ranks higher in NIH funding (18th) than schools like Harvard. the campus is right in the middle of the city, so not a typical university/college feel, although when we visited last year they were building a green area. The student activity/gym building is incredible. And they have brand new dorms for freshman Blazer Hall (rooms are for 4 people…kitchen area, 2 bathrooms, 2 people per bedroom) If he wants a college type campus, that isnt it, but it certainly is high on my son’s list. They do have automatic scholarships (one note…have his school put a weighted gpa on his transcript as UAB does NOT recalculate…and you want the best gpa he has)
