University of Alabama's 2019 Fall Freshman Class Has 256 National Merit Scholars

I mentioned this in the other recent thread on this Fall class’s data, but thought it deserved its own thread given the record number of National Merit Scholars in this Fall’s class.

This is the largest number of National Merit Scholars in UA history, up from 187 in last Fall’s class, which was the second highest number of National Merit Scholars in the nation. Looks like UA might have the most National Merit Scholars this year.

My son’s NMF class in 2012 was 240 so 256 is impressive. Upping the awards to include housing again definitely helped increase the current numbers, as well as other universities cutting their NMF awards. Good for UA - roll tide!

Can NMFs basically count on being admitted to the Honors College?

Entering freshmen with composite ACT scores of at least 30 or composite SAT scores of at least 1360 and at least a 3.5 high school GPA are invited to apply to the Honors College. **Upon receipt of their Honors College freshmen applications, all National Merit Finalists and National Achievement Finalists are admitted automatically/b. Students will be notified of their acceptance by e-mail. Admission to the Randall Research Scholars Program and the University Fellows Experience is a more involved admissions process reserved for incoming freshmen.
