University of California, Fall 2020-2021 Electrical Engineering Transfer (Focus: UC Berkeley & UCLA)

Hi all,

I believe it is never too early to start a community discussion. That said, I thought it would be helpful to officially establish a forum which centralizes the Fall 2020-2021 BSEE transfer discussion. The discussion is boundless, but it would be most beneficial if it had an overarching focus on objective statistics and relevant insights. That being said, I’d like to begin the discussion by posting my current stats:

  1. GPA context and GPA:
    - 3 semesters attended (+ one summer session)
    - 17 courses taken / 53 units (6 course / 18 units / one entire semester dropped)
            - Semester dropped due to family-related issues getting out of hand (trauma has been ongoing since I was born
and ties into my personal statements
    - GPA: 3.72 (I will raise this GPA with my 14 remaining courses)
  1. Extra-Curriculars:
   - Career Related:
            - Intern at a Private Equity firm (Growth Equity firm centered around diversity and inclusion focused on "tech
              enabling companies")
            - Lazard Sophomore Diversity Day (Ranked #7th best investment bank/financial advisor in the world)
            - Self-managed portfolio (healthy returns)
            - Sponsors for Educational Opportunity Edge Investment Banking (most likely will also be asked to join at
              INROADS)
            - In the process of starting own Real Estate Firm
            - Will most likely have more before my transfer

   - School-related groups:
            - Project Connect (Major branch of school's government)
            - Financial Analysis and Management Education (School's investment fund)
            - Honors program
            - Will most likely have more before my transfer

   - Non-Profits
            - Political / Governement / Legal / Diversity
                    - Associate -- Hispanic Heritage Foundation (National non-profit started by the Reagan administration -- I
organized the 6th annual Investor's Forum)
                    - Bay Area JusticeCorps (Empowered Self Represented Litigants at San Mateo Superior Court)
                    - The Coalition on Homelessness (Did some policy work which advocated for San Francisco's destitute)
                    - City and County of San Francisco (While interning, I organized City Events, but was eventually promoted to
                      Mayor's Front Office Coordinator)
                    - Sponsors for Educational Opportunity Edge Investment Banking (Established a centralized communication
platform for a national network of future business leaders)
                    - Immigration Advocacy Network (Conducted major outreach and empowered thousands of undocumented
people during the peak of the DACA/ICE debate)
  1. Personal Statements/background:
         - I am confident my personal statements will be very competitive. I dealt with major hardships while growing up
which differentiate, empower, and motivate me. (i.e. I've seen and experienced the most difficult
things I'll ever have to face... everything now is easy)
         - I am fortunate to have a Dad who loves to build things/pull things apart. That said, I was exposed to a lot of
           mechanical and computer innards.
         - I am truly inspired and motivated by the world which awaits us, a world revolutionized by technology and
innovation. I am fascinated by current projects that involve space exploration/entrepreneurship and
automation/machine learning. If I can play a part in this revolution in some way (whether it be through
investment/advisory or a more hands-on approach) I would be nearly fulfilled (A career in
venture capital or owning a tech business would be perfect).
                     - By way of research, I found that VC / PE firms are moving away from hiring Business/Finance/Economics
                       majors and towards EE,CS majors.
  1. Recommenders:
         - Nice relationships with Econ and Physics professors
         - My current Mentor/Boss (Founder of Private Equity Firm, candidate for mayor of LA, and Mckinsey & Goldman
           Alumn)
