University of California Irvine

I want to transfer to UCI for a BA in Criminology. I’m starting community college next year. I graduate HS this year and didn’t do so well in high school, so I’m going to a community college to get a good GPA. I’m out of state and know that it’s very selective. What GPA should I maintain and other requirements before I transfer out for my junior year in 2020?

You realize that you will be full pay at $60K+/year to attend UCI? Also OOS transfers have low priority in the transfer process.

This will give you an idea of UC GPA requirements by campus and major: https://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/infocenter/transfers-major

Thanks, I’ll apply to other schools also, just in case I don’t get in, or if I don’t get financial aid or any scholarships.

You also have to pay for room/board and transportation costs which adds another $13-16K/year at least to tuition costs. Tuition is only part of the costs in attending a University, unless you can live somewhere for free and commute. Most OOS students do not have that option.

As a parent of a UC attendee, I am well aware of the costs.

Directly from UCI’s website: Total undergraduate tuition and fees for out of state residents: $43,411.63.

Add in: montly parkly permit if you live on campus $101/month, if off campus.

On campus housing runs between $13,000 and $15,000 per year.

This doesn’t include cost of books, supplies, other expenses.

There you see where the $60K+ cost comes from.
