TAP is transfer alliance prog with ULCA
TAG is transfer alliance prog with UC San Diego.

has anyone figured out what to do with the dropdown selection regarding academic renewal classes?

I failed a class my first semester but am retaking it right now and am on pace to get an A, so how do i enter that into the app. Just put an F for the original class, and then A for the retake? or do I actually have to use the AR option.

Transfer Alliance Program - UCLA (Not guarantee)

Is a 3.5/3.6 gpa for econ at berkeley/ucla/usc a reach or do u guys think i have a fairly good shot if i write a good essay.

UCB is consistently ranked top 5 in the country for their English major. I don't think you can go wrong with that.

UCLA is also good, plus within their English major, you have the choice of focusing on creative writing.

The only UC with a seperate creative writing major is Riverside.

As far as personal statements, people who've gotten into the Ivies, Stanford, and also UCs constantly put up their essays here for future students to look at. Here are a couple of links:

On a side note, you should talk to CardinalFocused about this. I believe he's researched all most of the UCs' English majors thoroughly and can give you better advice than me.

Will getting a W this Fall semester in a class that's not a prereq for my major hurt my chances in any way?

not too much, make sure you retake it in winter or spring and ACE it.

If your applying to UC's this month, they won't see the grade no matter if you aced it or not.

WRONG.....

UCLA counselor told us this explicitly:

they DO NOT make their decision based on your fall grades. yes, they take a look at it, but they WAIT for your submission of fall06 grades in jan/feb and THEN they accept or decline.

..................what?

bayarealivin, you didnt make sense.

What Bayarealivin said was contradictory. I think this is what he's trying to say:

The UC adcom doesn't immediately start reviewing applications the moment you turn yours in. Instead, they go through the freshman application first, which usually takes couple of monthes, and then they finally start the transfers, which would be around February or March.

And of course, you'll already have submitted your Fall and Winter grades. So what johnnzen said (If your applying to UC's this month, they won't see the grade no matter if you aced it or not) is kind of wrong (unless I misunderstood his statement), because UC WILL look at the Fall Grade as part of decision.

ok. short version of what i said:

Fall Grades are important.

tiiite.

lakdfjlaf

Doh. I was responding to Kevintech's post:

"not too much, make sure you retake it in winter or spring and ACE it."

In my mind I was thinking, if he took the W now, the adcom's won't be able to see the grade when he takes it in winter or spring, even if he did ace it.

Come on!!! You guys are supposed to be psychic. :D

johnzen, actually when you update your application in feb, you can submit the winter grades. However, i think they're technically only supposed to look at fall

uhh i re-read what i wrote and it made sense to me.. haha

so what i got out of johnnzen's response was that even if you get an A or not in this quarter (Fall06), it would not matter.

i replied by saying that your grades this quarter WILL matter because the decision process includes looking through your application when you submit it in november, but their final decision will only be made AFTER you submit your fall06 grades in when they request for your app to be updated in jan/feb.

"When you apply for Fall, 2007, you will self report all academic information including what you are currently taking (Fall, 2006) and what you plan to take (Winter,Spring, 2007). In January we will request your Fall grades and a verification of Spring course work. The admission decision will therefore be based on your grades through the Fall, 2006 and planned courses through the Winter/Spring." -Berkeley Rep

I won't have my grades until February, when my winter intersession ends, so it seems to me they won't be able to see my grades after fall 2006.

what do some of u mean by winter grades? at my ccc there is fall and spring semestres, no winter.
