Kevintech I think I do remember you from last year's thread when I was checking out the transfer forums.

what comes out Sunday?

I thought filing period is nov. 1st

the app is available on sunday but we wont be able to submit until november i believe

thanks bob, that’s what I thought

how long does the app really take, isn’t a month ahead of time really long

Major: Econ
GPA: 3.86
Attending: Mt. Sac
Applying Schools: Cal and UCI
EC's: Study Abroad London, Honors Program, Active PTK member, SIFE

Depends on how prepared you want your application to be.

I just thought it was basically a long form with three essays

I have been wondering about those wanting to go to UCB and UCLA as first choices, is your desire to go there based solely on reputation, or more than that? As well, have you people ever seen the campuses before? I am just wondering what peoples reasons to go there besides rankings. I meet so many people who have those two as their number one choice, but besides rankings seem to know nothing about the schools.

As for myself, I choose UCLA because I know a lot of people there, like the environment the most of the schools I have seen, and could really see myself enjoying the atmosphere there. O yea, and they have a great engineering program as well, who could forget that.

Current GPA: 3.7/3.76 (need to talk to a teacher about a grade)
Major: Mechanical Engineering
School: De Anza
EC's: An intern at a start-up biomedical device company
Applying to: UCLA, UCSB, UCB, UCSD, UCSC, UCI with preference in that order.

Got a big start on my essays, and I plan to finish them this weekend. I'll use the rest of October to touch them up.

Good luck to everyone!!!

oxypunk,
Aside from the rankings, I am basically choosing UCLA because it's close to home, it has a great international institute for majors and it's relative location. You can't go wrong with West Los Angeles. And besides, the weather is great, close to the beaches, urban setting etc. And my friends and family will be around so it's good too, eventhough I do plan on staying on campus. I also plan on going into/working in an industry this year that's only best in Los Angeles of couse. Elsewhere in California, there is no luck with that. Unless it's New York. And having UCLA's dead set location around the proximities of West L.A and Beverly Hills offers me convenience for what I want to do.
Hopefully to see you there next year :) And everyone else who applies!

Oh yes and I have seen the campus before, UCLA is gorgeous.

I've seen UCI and UCSD out of all the other UC's. Still doesn't beat UCLA's campus. I am sure other campuses are lovely too from what I heard.

Yeah, 3rd years in an JC suck!

Might be the case for me too if I don't get into UCLA for Fall 2007. :/

wait would you really do a third year at a JC to help improve your chances?
Im just wondering cause I was thinking about doing that....

I'd do JC a third year to improve my chances and also finish my pre-vet requirements, by the end of this year I'd still lack organic chemistry and physics that I would plan to take it at UCLA, but if not I'll just finish it at a JC if I have to remain for the 3rd year.

Yams, if you're applying to UCLA for a LS major, you'll need a semester of O-Chem.

kevintech:
Nope, I'm not applying as an LS major, I'm going for Global studies. I'm just taking neccessary classes for the pre-health/pre-vet requirements. So it really doesn't matter where I finish taking my bio, chem, ochem and that stuff.

why will 3 years improve your chances

Because then they will also be able to see my spring 2007 grades for a few of my pre-reqs. Better chance if I apply third year since if I do apply then, I will have 100% of my pre-req grades available for showcase.
But since I am applying for this year, the most they will have to determine is everything though this fall 2006's grades, which is about 7/10 of my pre-reqs.

Yams, there's nothing really to lose if you apply this november, except for the 60 bucks. I know a few people that were planning to stay a 3rd year but got it surprisingly a year early.
