College Admission Requirements for Transfer Students
This major is offered by the College of Letters and Science (L&S).

By the end of the spring term preceding fall enrollment at Berkeley,
you must complete either:
1) The L&S Requirements in Reading & Composition, Foreign Language, and
Quantitative Reasoning; OR
2) IGETC

In addition:
- Complete as many lower division major requirements (see below) as possible
before transfer.

In general:
- completion of L&S Requirements (or IGETC), plus
- strength of academic preparation, and
- grade point average
are the primary selection criteria for admission."

In this context, I would say "academic preparation" is the same as completing your major requirements.

Btw, a lot of their other majors say the exact same thing.

By spring, I would have completed most of the 4 subjuects basic requirements in the two humanitites and social science area. But I am still left with natural science. Can i take natural science course in summer 2007 while i apply for fall 2007? cuz i read that UC's prefer that u finish by the end of spring 07, which is going to be difficult for mi to do so, as i also have to finish my lower division major requirements?

ucla and ucb extremely stress you to finish all pre-reqs BEFORE spring07, especially if you're applying for a highly impacted major. if you aren't apply for such major, then you might be able to slide.

YES spring 2007 is the last semester/qtr to fulfill prerequisities for your major. UCSD and UCI allow up to Summer 2007, if you're a strong applicant in other areas.

what about for those who apply for un-impacted major? is major requirements reallly that important for them?
also, if u completed tap, can't u pick ur major once u get in, between ur first choice and alternate major? i heard from one of the forums here that when u complete major requirements for both majors u apply, with tap, u can choose. of have i misunderstood?

i agree with the notion that ec's are not super important. uc's give much more emphasis to gpa, type of courses than to ec's compared to private schools.

if ur transferring in one year, the uc's only look at one semestre of grades. does that mean that they will put less emphasis to grades and more emphasis to igetc and major requirements?

[quote] What does Undergraduate Admissions (UARS) look at when reviewing applications for admission?
1. Completion of major prep;
2. Strength of GPA; and
3. Strength of major prep GPA.

Is IGETC required for admission?
No, but it does weigh in the selection process.

What is more important to complete - major prep or IGETC?
Although students are encouraged to complete both, major prep is the most important. What the high unit majors must realize is that, if they enter without IGETC, they will have substantial GE to complete after they enter - much more than if they did IGETC and major prep at the community college. This will increase their time to degree.

major reqs are important regardless of their impactedness.

Whether you complete tap or not, if you complete the major req, you can switch your major after you get into UCLA. However, some departments (for example, economics) do not allow students of other major from different department (let's say chemistry) to switch into their department.

Also, when you are TAP certified, you have the privilege of being reviewed for both your first and the alternative major, whereas those who's not TAP certified only gets considered for their first-choice major. Therefore, those who are TAP certified gets much better chance of getting in, considering the fact that they are not immediately dropped after they get rejected for the first-choice major.

I was wondering is for the UC essays i can write 650 words, 150 words, and 200, or does it have to be strictly in the area of 600, 200, and 200??? please help.

the word limits are the guidelines for approximately how long your essay should be. so 600 words is a little less than a page and half. 200 words are about half a page. You dont have to make your essay EXACTLY 600 or 200 words. They just dont want people writing 5 page essay.

this may be a repeated question but i want to know where do i send my transcripts to? to each individual uc or to a central admissions office? and if it is a central admissions office, whats the address?

Transcripts for UC schools will only be requested if you get admitted and you decide to accept admission. I wouldn't worry about that just yet. There are other things to worry about!
