for those applying to Haas, here's something that might lessen your anxiety...

from the ucb admissions website FAQ page

"From Taiko to the Rubberband Club, leadership, passion and talents abound at Cal. A diverse student body where interests run the gamut creates a vibrant campus. In our comprehensive review, you will be looked at as a total person. Sustained passion for and involvement in extra-curricular activities help us see your potential as a leader and your ability to contribute to our campus community. So achievement in these areas may influence our decision, but it may or may not be a deciding factor.

Transfer students do not always have the option of participating in extracurricular activities, but other qualities and experiences can demonstrate your strengths in the areas of leadership, talent, passion, commitment and the ability to achieve in the face of challenges."

well. if all of that is indeed true, then you stand the best shot out of everyone i have ever seen anywhere to get into haas. im just incredulous because i havent seen stats like that before.

but i suppose its possible.

in any case, has anyone sent any of the letters of, you know, they have to change things and stuff like that?

Pellman:
A “W” on a transcript means nothing more than a class that you didn’t complete, therefore, we are unable to give you credit for the course. It isn’t a negative thing for a UC Undergraduate Admissions Adviser. As long as you still meeting the admissions requirements needed for the campus your application should be unaffected. I would recommend, if interested in graduate school or a professional school, to contact the school and discuss this with them. I’m not sure if they see a “W” any differently.

ooohnelle:
For the UC system, we use the new grade for your calc class. Since you have passed the course with a "C" grade or better we will always use that grade even when calculating your gpa. In other words, we do not allow you to retake the course even if your college does.

UCD Admissions, do you think that with a 3.6 GPA and all major requirements complete, I could have a good shot (high probability) of getting into Davis as a political science major, without signing a guaranteed agreement?

zemookmook,
although not required or unless asked, they request applicants not to send in any hard copies. however, i am sending in my resume, recs, updates, etc. for the uc update, there is an online one and also mail-in copy that you can download off the website. it's up to you

ilovecalifornia,
i think you have an excellent chance =) although i dont think any reps are allowed to answer those questions.. haha. you'll be fine even without the guaranteed transfer bc you surpass those requirements. it's definitely safer, but i think it's actually better not to rely on a guaranteed contract bc its better for grad school. some of my friends just get the minimum and are never motivated to actually learn. goodluckkk

thanks UCD! i know some privates just factor in all the grades, so it automatically averages out. i've called UC admissions before, and they technically do not average or replace the grade, but everything is factored in. to clarify, the college gpa that i graduate from a potential UC would be with the C? i think what you're saying is that even though my CC allows it, the UC will not count it; that the new grade will not be counted unless it was a D or F. i've heard so many different stories! i hope that some grad schools accept the new grade. thanks. anyone else know more about this?

Did anyone else just hear on NPR that community college transfer applicants to the UC system declined by 2% from last year? A woman working for the UC system said that they "are trying to understand why there is a decrease in applicants from community colleges."

coast, you are a tap student? is your gpa above a 3.8? (just wondering) I didnt mention that im a tap student even though im in the honors program...

u know whats funny...i ran into someone who does admissions for haas (randomly in public) and i stopped talking to her when i found out its haas and i'm not applying for business

lol just thought its funny bc i'm sure a ton of people would have liked that to happen

On the UC Application Update form (and on the original app), we're provided fields for two courses in English Composition, and one course in Math and Quantitative Reasoning...

I'm trying to transfer between UCs, so what am I supposed to put in these fields? How do we know which courses satisfy these two requirements?

I filled it in with classes I thought would work, assuming GE writing courses at UC Davis satisfy it, and the most basic math class (Calculus) satisfies the other...

Yeah...I'm doing the Transfer Alliance Program (TAP) with UCLA. You had to check the (TAP) box on your application, and you also have to send in a (TAP) certification form in the next two weeks.

Here are my stats...
Major: Political Science
GPA: 3.40
IGETC: Done
Pre-reqs: 5/5 by this spring

I think I'm a match for UCLA, especially with TAP, but I do have a TON of W's, so I hope that isn't a big detriment.

Hmm.. I just realized that I reported the wrong grade in my application (yes, I know, kinda late, but hell, I'm a procrastinator.). I put that I received a C when I actually got an A. This means a bit of a difference to my UC GPA.

How can I get this fixed? Or am I too late now?

This is what I get for doing everything at the last minute.........sigh.
