University of California Transfer Students Fall 2007 OFFICIAL THREAD!!!

In my case, all the schools i am applying to does not require students to complete prereqs. In fact, all the UC's except UCB, UCLA, UCSD does not require that!!

well if its a competitive school or major...then you need the pre-reqs...for good chances...even if the website says otherwise..

I'm not sure if this was mentioned before, but does anyone know which school at UCSD is the best in terms of which has the least gen-ed requirements? Thanks in advance :)

Asked about a million times in the UCSD forum, but I believe most would say Muir.

Really??? No prereqs for CS at Berkeley? Would you mind elaborating on that one...first I've heard of it...Thx.

In fact, all the UC's except UCB, UCLA, UCSD does not require that!!

he's saying all UCs EXCEPT ucb, ucla uscd do not require pre reqs. so yes cs at berk requires prereqs.

I didn't say CS does not have prereqs... I said CS does not require all prereqs to be eligible for admission.

Lots of schools don't offer the Berkeley L&S CS prereqs courses.

Hey davisengineer, I'm applying to transfer to Berkeley as well (for Econ), does College of Engineering require you to finish GE's? I just visited my adviser today and she said I didn't take enough Performing Arts GE's to fulfill the reciprocity agreement...

haha thanks ilovecalifornia. i'm applying to ucb, ucla, ucd, and ucsc... but the more i think about it, the more i feel like i might be better off forgetting about berkeley and ucla.

no...you should still apply. you never know + u dont wanna live wondering 'what if'

sooo....has anyone decided to stay a third year at CC for any reason yet? :D

I ask because I just decided to change my major from Poli Sci to CS, and I wouldnt be able to make that change at UCLA or Cal. So it looks like a third year of CC for me, unless I really like UCSB when I go visit in a few months.

3rd year JC student here!

first year jc student here!

kevin, did you regret staying the third year, or do you think it was worth it.
i just feel like ill be missing out on college for another year, plus living with the parents can only be so tolerable. but free rent ftw i guess.

bobbak,
why can't you change your major when you get into the UC? people do it all the time. Are there too many pre-reqs you would have to make up in the UC?

I plan on adding another major when I get to whatever UC i decide to go to. I want to add economics to my current major of history, and am allowed and able to do this at all of the UC's except UCLA (If someone knows I'm wrong please say so, this is just what I've heard from peoples/websites). I only have 2 econ classes under my belt and yes, it will be hard to "catch up", but nothing that's impossible, especially if one takes summer classes. Don't stay a third year, there's no need...

Most schools won't allow you to tack on a second major that is impacted because it is usually harder to get in to. That is why you can't just add economics at UCLA (possibly UCB too??) or apply to CAS at NYU and change to Stern. Otherwise you would have people applying for random majors with no prereqs and switching into the major of their choice once they get there.

I stayed a third year at my cc because even taking a full load each semester it took me that long to finish the prereqs for different schools. Being my major is impacted at every school I am applying they require more classes.

qualifying ^

I'm pretty sure that at UCs you can put w/e majors you want when you declare majors as long as they're under the same college, namely the college you were accepted into... I think there's an exception with ucla's biz/econ but I'm not sure what the policy is right now

UCB you can double up with econ...and all the other uc's i checked as well (sb, davis, sd) except UCLA.

UCLA and Berkeley dont allow change of majors into their "impacted" majors.
well, for CS, they will allow a petition for change during your first quarter there, but they will only let you change if you would have been accepted had you applied for that major originally.

I could go to UCSB and change my major into CS, but Im not sure I want to go there :/

However, even if I stay a third year at CC and finish my CS pre-reqs, my gpa would be at 3.5 when applying, so that would still leave me on the reach for the schools I want to go to.
