University of California Transfer Students Fall 2007 OFFICIAL THREAD!!!

^wrong board

I think that the proposition weights in more heavily on public schools (since its the tax payers that voted, if you know what i mean). However, private schools "consider" race, unlike the UCs. With this said, i believe that affirmative action does not exist at private schools in california...esp since a lot of them get government money (cal grants!!). I may be wrong though...

smith, Affirmative Action in CA was eliminated a few years ago, so it cannot be used in college admittance decisions

on another note, UCB does not do interviews for the transfer regents scholorships, only for the freshmen...even though they told me that the letters go out on May 1st, I have a feeling that some of you are right about them going out earlier. The reason being is that on another thread it seems that almost all the freshmen regent letters have gone out already and Feb is a little early for that so maybe we will get lucky as well.

for anyone who wants to follow this thread...it's the freshmen who have already recieved the regent's letters.

mmm

actually I don't really care if I get regent's

I just want to know if I'm in sooner hahaha

Me too. I don’t think ill get it but I thought I could be semi-finalist. But since it looks like there are no semi-finalists Ill have to wait.

I just hope I get in.

You're right, whoever said wrong thread to chat about AA. The issue of whether or not Affirmative Action is in effect or not does apply to UC applicants , but this probably isnt the right thread to chat about it. I did my research about prop 209. Thanks mojojojo69.

do you think adcoms have a set formula or what?
like x amount of points = gpa of 3.8+
or whatever

it sounds as if ucb and ucla are the only schools that care about your personal statements.
do they care about extra currics?

the UCs are mainly about #s. However, ever since prop 209, they have tried to make a "holistic approach" to admissions, which is why ucla and ucberk supposedly read the essays. The Cal states are more open about their admissions being an index formula. I doubt they care about the extra curriculars...

i actually have one more question about this AA topic before we kill it. mainly because it has to do with essays. my personal statement talked a lot about what my experience has been as a black female. they won't hold that against me, will they? i didn't know that the admissions process is supposed to be race-blind... i feel like it might seem like i tried to sneak around that.

just a random question
do you think berk will factor in grades from high school (spanish i and spanish ii to be more specific) or do you think they'll just want to know whether or not you completed em?

they don't give a crap about what you did in high school

even if you use the spanish classes to fulfill your 2 years of spanish requirement?

yeah I believe so

ah icic
where did u apply lostincode? whats ur major

bearclaw15, did you put in your 2 years of H.S. grades in the Berkeley update ICETC form where it asks for a Language other than English requirement.

bear: applied math - cal

Angljc1 -

yeah i called up uc berk and they said to put my high school spanish grades in the area where it asks for language other than english. it was kinda weird puttin in grades for two semesters and when i took it..i just put the school year like 2001-2002 etc.

This is a really stupid question,

Say I submitted my Berkeley supplemental apps on time (before Feb 15th).
Then I go back in and look at them to see what I wrote down after the deadline.
I don't click submit or anything though, just look and then sign off.

Do you think this would be a problem? I mean, I don't submit them, I just go in sporadically to make sure I didn't make any mistakes.

No sarcasm please. Just a quick response would be fine. Thanks.

yeah don't do that anymore. everytime you log on, they see it as if you logged on for the first time. so you're actually turning your supplement in late and jeopardizing your chances for admissions

/end sarcasm

don't worry about it.
