Does any one know how UCHICAGO calculate their gpa?
Do they use unweighted?
Weighted?
Or the .5 for honors and 1 for AP GPA?

4.0 A and A+
3.7 A-
3.3 B+
3.0 B
2.7 B-

and so on regardless of whatever class you take

o wait you were asking about high school…no idea

yeah, i want to know which gpa they use for admissions

they will have both and if not calculate their own. IOW, doesn’t matter - too late to do anything about it anyway.

Remember too that class rank tells them more than a plain gpa

^I remember on their old website, they cited the average UW GPA (which was a 3.89).

Usually, high schools will not include both (mine doesn’t), because they choose to use one system or the other.

But newmassdad is right. If you’re a junior, your grade average won’t change that much between now and the time you apply, unless you’ve already caught senioritis and your grades are seriously tanking. Of course, I’m sure you’re a very hard-working student, because otherwise you wouldn’t be on CC.

Yeah my unweighted is 3.4 and weighted is 4.5 (in my schools gpa), my gpa using the 1 extra point using for APs and .5 for honors is 3.93.
I have 2000 hours of community service, in a vetenary office and hospital.
I am extremely good in the social sciences (their strenght)
I hope to get 1300-1400 in my sat (on the 1600 scale)
Im in NHS and maybe the Physics club.
I have passed 3 APs, taken 3 AP classes.
All honors and AP besides foreign language.
My course was as hard as could be. And im top ten im my class.
Im also hispanic, if that counts for anything (well kinda)

senior year courses.
film interpretation Honors
English Honors
AP US government/ Micro economics (at the same time)
AP enviormental
AP statistics
Holocaust and Vietnam Honors

I think my stats look weak but when i spoke to an admissions officer she told me i had a good chance, ever since i have gotten like 2 letters by mail every 2 weeks.

what do you guys think, what are my chances of getting in?

I know people who have not been in the top 10 of their class and gotten into University of Chicago.

HOWEVER, I would strongly recommend you take your SAT with writing (2400).

^ Don’t you have to take the writing? And you do realize that about half of the institutions (including UChicago) don’t use the writing portion.

I will say the following once, and then exit this discussion:

the folks that can really answer chances questions (i.e. the adcoms) will never do so; anyone who does answer does not know what they’re talking about - even if they base their opinion on folks who claim they got in, remember that people exaggerate. Unless you saw an official score report or transcript, you should assume that people with whom you talk are “rounding up”, sometimes a good amount.

the admissions process at UofC, like most elite colleges is complex. No one factor matters in a quantative way over any other.

this is not a “game” where there are secret rules waiting for you to discover them and win. By now, you are largely whatever you’ve done to date. Your record should speak for itself, but no more. You should concentrate on putting your record in a good light, of course, but concentrate even more on learning where you might fit - fit in terms of kind of college (big, small; urban, rural; greek, non-greek etc. ) . Fit is the only thing you control. Use your control

^JOKER23: Watch out! The average I listed was a UW without any APs or Honors factored in. However, people have gotten into Chicago with stats like yours, and people have been outright rejected (refer to the RD decisions thread) with stats much higher than yours. College admissions is definitely highly unpredictable. You are a URM, so that will help out, especially if you’re first-gen.

That said, good luck, and make sure to write a fantastic essay heavy on personality that will completely blow the admissions committee away, because they care deeply about that essay!

i have a question, i skipped a grade when i was in 2nd, does that help me?

The fact that you’re younger and you skipped in 2nd grade? Not really…you still learned stuff in sequence in high school, right?

but would i be able to use that in any way, for example to proof that i have always challenged my self to the limit. In my essay maybe?

joker,

In a word, NO.

What happened ten years ago is much more of a comment on your parents and the school system that allowed you to accelerate.

Curiously, there are a number of ways in which such grade skipping can actually hurt an applicant, but that is another story. What is done is done.

ahh sucks, what ever, thanks for every ones help, i guess i will find out if i got accepted this time next year.
