I taught I saw Dr. Indiana Jone leap off of the window of his classroom at U of C to chase after the tomb raiders.

LouieCope08, I must be a muggle, because I cannot see Hogwarts in that picture.

I don’t think Yale has this many castle-like looks.

Let me ask you, why are you ■■■■■■■■ here? I mean read the question.

BUSTED!!!
No but really, a lot of the people on this thread seem to think that UC is as close to Hogwarts as they can get, and I don’t think that correcting them is out of my place.

But PS, nice way of evading the fact that you got served ;)

Read the OP’s question again. He/She simply asks if if U of C like Hogwarts. Not if U of C looks closest to Hogwarts. Honestly stop being a ■■■■■.

So one itty bitty section of Yale looks like Hogwarts…the entire Quad at the U of C is Hogwarts - designed according to the likes of Oxford and Cambridge - just as Hogwarts was.

Get into Yale first, come back and discuss -only then won’t you be out of place.

If you think Yale looks like Hogwarts, go start your own thread. If you would, reread what I asked. I’m not going to say Yale doesn’t look like Hogwarts (as it does in parts), but I never asked for which school looks like Hogwarts. I asked what others though about University of Chicago’s architecture, housing system and their mascot and their resemblance to Hogwarts. This thread wasn’t suppose to be a debate and no where in my original post
Did I ask “which school looks closest” to Hogwarts? NO This post was to ask what students and prospective students thought about the beautiful architecture (and campus), housing system, and mascot. Honestly, if you disagree with this thread, fine but don’t come in here and denounce what other think.

Sirensong, you just got owned.

If the people on this board are at all typical of UC students, it’s a good reason not to apply. But I’m happy that you all love your school’s architecture. It’s quite a pretty campus, whether or not it genuinely resembles Hogwarts.

PS: I was not the first (or even close) to suggest another school that looks (arguably) more like Hogwarts than UC. Rather, I was the only one who commented that I disagree that your school truly looks like Hogwarts, which in fact has no definite appearance. You will notice that the question which titles the thread “University of Chicago like Hogwarts?” makes this perfectly valid. So stop jumping down my throat, please.

lol @ this topic.

Don’t worry, as far as I know that kid hasn’t even applied to UChicago, and needs to get off our board if all he is going to do is argue with people about stupid stuff. Real UChicago students are nice! Yay! UChicago! :D

Sirensong, if you wish to argue that Yale truly looks like Hogwarts, please explain in detail. Cambridge, Oxford and UChicago have Gothic architecture. Yale has architecture that belongs to the Gothic Revival. There are significant differences between [Gothic Architecture](Gothic architecture - Wikipedia) and [Gothic Revival](Collegiate Gothic - Wikipedia).

Oh yes number 2 is definitely not close to number 1. (Sarcasm)

cdz512, I really don’t want to belabor the argument, but mentioned before Yale were Cornell, University of Edinbourgh, as well as every other college in the UK (mentioned collectively).

Divine Comedy, I am by no means an expert in architecture, nor will I pretend to be. The only reason I mention that Yale is similar to Hogwarts (architecturally, anyway), is because its embiance was very like what I pictured reading the Harry Potter books. The wrought-iron fences to get into the residential colleges are very reminiscent of the fences to get into Hogwarts, and the towers and turrets help contribute to the castle-like appearance. Maybe it had something to do with the tour guide’s constant references to Hogwarts that made it come to life, but I definitely felt it. Just for curiosity, do the books really specify what type of architecture Hogwarts has, or is it just the movies?

Also for curiousity, does UC advertise its similarity to Hogwarts? It seems like quite a few schools try to use this to impress prospective undergrads.

I don’t think the University of Chicago officially does. It almost certainly doesn’t use it in brochures and the like. Tour guides may hint at it, but they probably weren’t instructed to do so. I think it would be terribly unprofessional to compare your school to a fictional school for wizards. Not that we’re known for being professional here…

Hmm lets see what the person who mention Cornell said:
And JHS pretty much described why, JHS did not say that Cornell=Hogwarts. But did they try to contest University of Chicago? No. Yes Halie did say that Edinbourgh (that’s why I said your the second person). And I bet everyone can agree that lots of UK colleges look like Hogwarts (after all that’s where the Gothic Style buildings originated, US colleges stole their style and that’s why Harry Potter takes place in UK) so there is no contest attempted there.

If you haven’t noticed, there are also many other reasons why I think U of C and not Yale is similar to Hogwarts (it’s not just architecture)

Yawn, somebody is having trouble moving on…

. . .

I haven’t yet encountered a university that has reminded me of Hogwarts, to be perfectly honest. Not Yale, not UChicago, not Oxford or Cambridge or Edinburgh or Cornell. They all have their own atmospheres as Hogwarts has its own atmosphere - and I’m sorry, but the ambiance is somewhat different, I think. Hogwarts is a bit of a dim golden-yellow color with a hint of brown, while UChicago is more of a . . . clear white-blue-green color.

Not that my color system helps at all with understanding anything, I’ll admit.
