Eh yeah, maybe UChicago did extend the deadline a little longer than necessary, but what school doesn’t try to inflate their admission stats?

(25 schools, probably around 40 essays; I could recycle a bit though.)
My dad told me to “cast a wide net” when I was applying for colleges. I applied to a good 6-7 full tuition/scholarship/safety schools, a few matches, and then some reaches. When I get my decisions back, I want to *hopefully have a few options. I know I’m going to get declined from a number of schools (2120 SAT/3.94 UW), but I’m hoping for the best given my essay writing skills (above average) and my online entrepreneurship (owned/operated/led a few online businesses in the same market). Plus, I’m a bit crazy. (i.e., I’m taking 8 AP’s this year [my senior year].)

Tl;dr: I want options, and I’m a bit crazy.

And thank you kaukauna!

It’s okay, Vctory. I am applying to 25 schools, all over the world! lol.

I actually think 17 to 18 schools is a high range for the ambitious applicant.

Mainly, because of application management. But also because of additional applications (scholarships, honors programs, early payment for boarding, etc) usually due in the winter/spring.

Also, time management for interviews, school visits, etc.

How would someone have the time to really compare offers with financial aid in consideration? I guess this is the subject for another thread.

Good Luck Vctory

Sure, the deadline was extended a little more than it probably should have been, but let’s be real here…is there a top 10 school out there that doesn’t want to inflate their admission stats?

Well, it isn’t always a great thing. I mean, look how overworked they already are; trying to cram in more applications once they’re already below 10% really isn’t helping them that much. I mean, we all get the point that they’re super, super selective. Dropping down an extra percentage point or two isn’t going to make a huge impact on their ratings, but it will be hell for the readers and mean that they can’t do as good a job of making sure they select the best applicants.
