Thanks! @monkmonk
I was waitlisted too guys, ugh glad to know I’m not alone though! Is it good/mean anything that when I originally emailed my regional admissions officer my LOCI she responded within 24 hours? But I haven’t heard anything since then, and since it’s almost May I’m sort of giving up hope…
ugghh this process is terrible :(((
Wanted to clarify that yes I was accepted, committed, and then uncommitted because
- I was offered better FA else where (about a $10,000 difference) (and my FA package came after I committed, so after discussing it with my parents we decided it wasn’t worth it. And I also didn’t pay any deposit to UChicago because I qualified for a waiver)
- Housing arrangements at UChicago is based on a first come first serve bases. The worser housing options are thus given to waitlist students/students who commit later. (Obv the housing community is a pretty big deal and very important to me. Honestly, for me, it was BJ or nothing)
In retrospect, this entire situation with UChicago has been quite strange…
Ohh wow that is interesting, I see your point! Hmm well I think I am genuinely content with my situation. If UChicago takes me off I will consider but I feel good about VT as well @Lanie49
@Lanie49 Hmm… I totally understand your situation! I’m quite worried that even if I get off of the waitlist (which would be a miracle in the first place), I wouldn’t get enough FA to attend the school!
But the fact that you didn’t enroll at UChicago means another spot opened for one of us!
It was a hard choice but for some of the same reasons as @Lanie49 I had to really consider if UChicago was my best path. Yes I would be letting go of an amazing opportunity, but it doesn’t really feel like I’m losing anything. It was a huge honor enough to get off the waitlist and I hope that my decision not to attend will allow one you to get an amazing chance at the school!
@Paraxat I understand what you mean! Well everything happens for a reason
Can anyone tell me whether UChicago contacts waitlisted students who are offered a spot directly (email or their account page), or only through their regional counselor? The comments here all seem to reference communications with the regional counsel. My daughter is waitlisted and since she was homeschooled abroad she doesn’t have a regional counselor. She went ahead and enrolled at RPI (and is quite happy about it) but still interested in Chicago if a spot opens up.
@insanedreamer It seems like the people who got accepted in this thread have been contacted either by phone or email by their regional counsellors. I was waitlisted as well and am an international student. As far as the regional counsellor goes, I am quite certain she has one (regional counsellor at UChicago) for her region. When sending in my letter of continued interest (2 weeks ago), I was confused because they wouldn’t give me the email of the specific counsellor (the names of which you can find here → http://collegeadmissions.uchicago.edu/contact/mapintl ) so I actually sent it to the general email address. I think if your daughter tries searching for her counsellor’s name in her email, she’ll be able to find his/her email address like I did. It’s not too late since I received a reply from mine and I only sent it in (officially, at least) yesterday. Hopefully her counsellor isn’t on admission travel. Hope this helps!
Dude they need to tell us asap :///
The Countdown officially begins ^O^
Is anyone else’s regional counselor on admissions travel? Because mine is until May 21st and I find that a bit alarming since it’s the period when they review everything. Or is that just code that they’ll be really busy and won’t reply?
tigermothered: I think this is the period in the admissions cycle where the adcoms visit highschools and talk to next year’s seniors, so I think many of them are out of the office. I would think they would have a mechanism for reading emails remotely so I suspect your email has been read. I think the non-response is more a case of “the hay being in the barn” and waitlist admits will occur slowly over the next couple weeks as the admissions office gets a complete look at its 2019 class. All the best to you.
this is torture waiting
Hey guys, have you tried emailing your regional officer??
I’m an international and I emailed the international admission office (cuz they don’t have the personal emails for international admission officers) and I got a reply 10 minutes after so you guys should try emailing them if your international.
And btw, do you guys know what the acceptance rate was for the waitlisted applicants??
Hello everyone. This is my first time here, but this thread was very helpful while I was waiting so I wanted to post about my experience. I got off the waitlist on Monday, and I wanted to answer some of the questions people have. I did email my regional admissions counselor letting them know about my continued interest in the school and why I thought it was a good fit. On Monday I got an email from him saying he wanted to talk about the waitlist. I called him that afternoon, and after asking me whether I would attend if let off the waitlist they offered me a spot! They did not change the status on my portal until after I talked to him. I was given financial aid, which was comparable to the other schools I was accepted at. If anyone has other questions I’d be happy to answer them. I keep seeing people post on the Facebook page about getting off the waitlist, so there is still hope. Good luck everyone!
Congrats @darog9 do you mind posting your stats here or maybe messaging them to me? I’m worried about my grades/scores being the reason I don’t get off the waitlist since I’m pleased with my essays and letter and everything else!
@monkmonk I got a 1560 on the SAT (combined math and reading) and a 4.4 weighted GPA (4.0 unweighted). Good luck!
