It is not based off of stats though just saying- it is an unranked waiting list
@darog9 Congrats~~ Could you let us know your geographic location?
I believe it’s based off of what group they are lacking (racially). After that, they consider your credentials.
Your intended major is also taken into consideration (again, it is whatever they lack).
I’m from California and I’m interested in physics (there seem to be a lot of science majors let off the waitlist this year, but that could just be sample bias).
@darog9 Congratsss!!!
they say the waitlist is unranked, but they must have a list of a more realistic candidates. I highly doubt that they will accept students with low stats from the waitlist and from what I’ve seen on CC, most of the people who got off of the waitlist had really high stats.
I really don’t think I’ve seen any international student getting off the waitlist… ugh
@darog9 Did you also upload anything on your UChicago account? Congrats to you btw! Will you be going there definitely?
@alchemist7010 Thank you. I didn’t upload anything through my account, but that’s because I didn’t have anything to upload. I will definitely be going there. Good luck!
Thanks. Did the counselor perhaps mention anything else that might be helpful to us? I really really hope there’s more space available!!!
Hey guys. I have been reading this thread for awhile and thought I should chip in. I actually got off the waitlist early April, and from what I’ve read, the process is basically the same. I emailed my regional counselor about my continued interest, and then about two-three days later, she emailed me back asking if she could speak to me about my waitlist status. Basically, like everyone said already, she asked me about if I was still interested, and when I said yes, she offered me a spot. From what I’ve noticed, the wait-list acceptance appears to be a rolling admission which occurs every Friday (or other days if the student couldnt speak on Friday). So for those waiting, Friday is a pretty big day for answers from the admissions office.
@ksk1030 thanks for letting us know. Well what was your intended major? Congratulations
This is what my regional admissions officer said to me when I sent my letter to her on April 6 almost a month ago:
Thank you for your thoughtful note and your continued interest in UChicago! If you are to be selected off of the waiting list you will certainly hear from us. I hope you have a great spring break!
@tesfayeB: Calm. Down. Your postings are making me anxious and I’ve been done with the applying process for a year, I can’t imagine what it’s like for you.
The harsh fact is, almost no one gets off the waiting list. Sitting around waiting for an acceptance is counter-productive. It will probably never come and pining for it is only torturing yourself.
My advice for you is to pretend you were rejected instead of waitlisted. Forget that UChicago exists. Block this forum from your computer if you have to. Assume you’re going to whatever school you have committed to.
You are only making this worse for yourself. The odds are so low it’s far better to expect nothing and be totally shocked and delighted with an acceptance than to hold out till the very last minute until you finally give up hope. It’s better to become satisfied with the school you were accepted to on your own terms, not when you finally realize that you’re waiting for something that will probably not come.
@YogSothoth true. This was hard to hear but I really needed to hear it. I am making myself so upset and anxious about this… I don’t even care that much I swear. I am content with Virginia Tech! I am happy with the decision that I made to commit to Virginia Tech. I am just a stressed out person so I apologize for making people feel anxious or annoyed with my comments, I am going to stop commenting after today. I wish everyone the best of luck!
@tesfayeB. I think it’s okay to continue to aspire to be part of the college/university that you have your heart set. There are many people who are like yourself. My son is also wait-listed and we are still aiming/hoping for UChicago because his heart is set on it. That does not mean, that he is going to be heartbroken or not be content with what he has so far.
If you get UChicago, great! Your dreams would have come true. If not, it was never meant to be and you have better things to look forward to.
Dreaming is good! So dream on!
Z.
Hey guys, just letting you know that I was offered a spot off the waitlist approximately a week ago - so there is hope! regardless, you will find the right school for you. I turned down the offer because I believe that I was committed to the better choice for me. Best of luck!
@123peace congrats on getting off the waitlist! Could you give us some more infor, like your intended major, what you did after getting waitlisted, and what day you were accepted? Thanks so much where did you commit?
@tesfayeB it’s okay to comment, just don’t get too worried I don’t think that you need to completely forget about uchicago, just be hopeful but not obsessive. As another waitlisted student, I’m in the same boat…
hey guys! i uploaded my letter of continued interest to my uchicago account as opposed to emailing it to my regional officer. Should this matter? Also, did anyone send in their final report to uchicago?
