I believe @123peace is going to Rice.
@monkmonk yes, I am committed to Rice. I am pursuing a degree in Biochemistry (but not Pre-Med). After finding out that I was waitlisted, I (obviously) accepted my spot on the waitlist. A few days afterwards, I sent an email to my regional officer expressing my continued interest and a few updates about new awards/activities. Since then, I have not had any contact until I was called on Tuesday of last week. My regional officer gave me 24 hours to decide if I was still interested and then said that he would extend an offer of admission if I was. After serious deliberation, I declined the offer, as I felt that Rice was the right place for me and I did not want to take the opportunity from someone who wanted it more. I have shown a lot of interest in UChicago in the past, including visiting campus and going to multiple information sessions, which I believed helped, seeing as I did not send many updates.
“…and I did not want to take the opportunity from someone who wanted it more…”
That’s a wonderful attitude. Keep it up!
is it too late to send a loci ;_;
I have been wracking my brain over what to say in order to increase my chances
Hey guys. I have been “stalking” you guys for a while and I thought I would join the convo too. I also got wait listed this year. I wrote an email of commitment to my counselor and got a reply saying he would update my app. My college counselor at my high school also called U Chicago and they said the acceptance rate was only 7.7% this year. After looking through the statistics of the accepted applicants, I thought that perhaps it’s time to move on because I wasn’t as qualified. So given the chances of any of us getting off the wait list, I would suggest that we invest our interest into a school where we deposited on May 1st. My heart still belongs to U Chicago but I found it much more relieved to know that we could also be happy at somewhere else that wanted us. If I don’t get off the wait list I will go to my second-choice school and make it worth 100%. @tesfayeB , I’ve been where you are so I know that it’s super frustrating. I literally checked my email every half hour to see if I got anything from my U Chicago counselor… but don’t stress out anymore. What come will come!
Hey guys, I have sent a letter to my regional admission officer about a month ago but haven’t received any feedback. I don’t even know if my email has been sent successfully or not. Has anyone encountered the same problem?
I received an email back from my admissions officer, but that was about a week after admission notifications were sent. @YaoaGuna
Yeah I emailed my admissions counselor a month ago and she responded the day right after. I think it depends on which counselor you have. I know someone who sent a letter to their counselor and didn’t get a response and then he sent a follow up email and got a response.
does anyone know if Chicago is done admitting us waitlisters or if they just took a bunch of kids off earlier because they badly underestimated yield? I’d prefer the latter… Anyways do you guys think it means anything that out of six kids who applied from my school all six of us were waitlisted including one kid who got into Columbia, Duke, Penn, and Georgetown?
Am I the only who feels ignored by my regional officer? No email responses since before the app deadline. I held high hopes for uchicago but this is turning me off… maybe everything is for a purpose and this person’s lack of interest will make it easier to move on if I don’t get off the waitlist.
My regional officer told me that “the class is almost, if not entirely, full at this point”…
I think it is time for us to move on and think about the colleges we got accepted in to @emmaspirant
I just was email by my regional admissions counselor and it said
“Would happen to have a moment to chat over the phone sometime in the next couple days?”
Is this a good sign or a sign saying it’s all over???
THATS REALLY GOOD!!!
That is really good news @gossipgirlxoxox
If you happen to get a chance while talking to your regional counselor, could you ask him/her how many more spots are available for waitlisted students?
Okay this might seem like a stupid question but… how do you guys handle the stress? I mean, everyone on this thread is like “whatever, just wait till you find out and focus on your May 1 college” but that’s a lot easier said than done! Like I’ve been compulsively checking my emails and, although I’m excited about my college I’ve deposited at, the thought that I just MIGHT be attending the U of C instead just keeps gnawing at the back of my mind, hampering my excitement for next year. How do you ignore that uncertainty?
Also! I apologize for not sharing this earlier but I talked to an admissions officer in March and she said that their goal is to let most people know by May 1. So I’d assume that everybody who’s heard after is just a few rare exceptions. I wouldn’t hope for much. Sorry guys…
As long as you don’t tell them to go f themselves @gossipgirlxoxox that means that they’re going to extend an offer of admission when you get in touch with your regional admissions officer. If you could let us know ethnicity and major that would be great because it does sound like they’re closing up shop on the waitlist in short order so to know what they’re looking for to fill the class would be great.
So I was the person who mentioned that my counselor emailed me asking for a chat on the phone. Unfortunately it was only to offer me a gap year and a spot in the following years class. Which means that all the spots are probably filled. He said they rarely went to the waitlist this year guys and so I’m pretty sure we should all focus on our colleges we choose
also someone asked for this but I am Caucasian with a hope for Political Science and I was offered the gap year
@gossipgirlxoxox. Are you going to take the gap year offer? What region are you from? Maybe there are other regions that still have “open seats”.
What do other people think? Is it worth taking the gap year?
