@tesfayeB I know how frustrated it must have been. I’m sorry but at the same time, I’m happy for you. You can finally move on Good luck!
Wait @soccerboy10 what region are you from? Who’s your admissions counselor?
Has someone here inquired about the gap year and received no answer?
Hi guys, I’m also on the waitlist. I was considering calling my regional admissions officer today and inquiring about gap years/waitlist movement. I’m from the mid-Atlantic east coast region, so I’m not expecting to get off. At this point I feel like I got a pity waitlist because the chances of actually getting in are so low.
@doubledamn Why not just email him/her? Also, anybody else waiting on multiple waitlists?
@doubledamn just a couple. Swarthmore, Chicago, Georgetown, Middlebury, and Claremont McKenna. Got off of Rice and UCLA already.
@jasonkos I talked to a student working in the admissions office so idk your regional admissions officer is probably a better source. What is the congrats for btw?
I’m on Colby, Hamilton, Carleton and Chicago. Was not expecting to get hit with waitlists by my match schools but that seems to be the new normal.
@soccerboy10 are you planning on accepting rice or UCLA?
@doubledamn I feel the same. I’m from a minority grouping on so many levels and I feel like my waitlist was just so I didn’t feel demoralized. I’ve thankfully accepted that this might be it for and should I get an offer from another school/waitlist ( Vassar our Amherst) then I’ll honestly take it. I just hate the safety I’ve committed to but there wasn’t much choice and I am trying to see the academic if not social perks of going there if I get off none of these lists.
But yeah I do feel like it was a consolation prize.
@Emmaspirant what’s your safety btw? Good l with Amherst and Vassar I don’t mind going to my safety, but obviously UChicago is the dream
*luck
@Emmaspirant did you deposit at UW-Madison? I only ask because I looked through your previous threads and I deposited at UW-Madison too!
@Emmaspirant But yeah I totally agree with you, especially since I applied EA and then was deferred. It feels like they didn’t know how to politely tell me I wasn’t good enough/didn’t want to ruin their relationship with my high school. I’m pretty upset as Uchi was (and still is) my first choice, but I decided to take a gap year, so maybe I’ll reapply.
@doubledamn going to Rice unless I can get off of Swarthmore, Chicago, or Georgetown. This process has been buckets of fun I have to say.
@doubledamn nah I opted for the hbcu experience since is qualified for a scholarship that was basically a full ride. Plus I have relatives who live nearby who will be able to help me out with moving in, holiday’s etc due their proximity to DC. I do hate the social scene at HU even though it’s #2 hbcu the kids are too strung up on parties and image-for my geeky self at least. Is uchicago the only place you are waitlisted at though?
Waitlisted here and WashU. But I’m not sure that I would take WashU if I got off, we will see. I am committed to University of Florida right now, but I REALLY want to be up north so I’m crossing my fingers. But I am saving tons of money staying here which means study abroad and more vacations…
@snowboardchick97 @jojo16 so yes I asked to receive my decision early because I was tired of waiting. And thank you so much @jojo16 best of luck with UChicago <3
@soccerboy10 oh man was it buckets of fun. If I were you I wouldn’t give up Rice for Georgetown, but that’s just me. Good luck
@Emmaspirant I’m not familiar enough with Howard to know about the party scene, but I’m sure you’ll kill it there. I get that it isn’t ideal, but I think you’ll be surprised by how many geeky kids you’ll run into.
Nah I’m also waitlisted at Colby, Hamilton and Carleton. Well I actually took myself off Colby’s waitlist because I’m taking a gap year, and they don’t let students taken from the waitlist defer a year. So just Hamilton and Carleton otherwise.
