I got accepted into both the University of Connecticut- Storrs and the University of Maryland- College Park. I need help on deciding what school I should go to. I want to pursue a career in business

For University of Maryland I would be an Economics Major

For University of Connecticut I would be a Finance Major

Nothing wromg with UConn; its a very good school; its just that Storrs is in the middle of nowhere with nothing around it, no town, no shops/restaurants/bars; nothing! I’ve never been to College Park, but its location has to beat Storrs. And I would tend to think that UMD has a slight edge recognition wise

in terms of majors. UCONN- Finance and UMD- Economics. Which would you do to look appealing to employer? (I could not do Finance and UMD because I did not get into the school of business) bump…

I would say UMaryland. I just think UMaryland has the slightly better reputation. IMO, they are very similar in education level, except it is a little colder in Connecticut and UConn constantly owns in basketball, hahaha.

UMaryland has a gorgeous, big campus and great programs. I’d choose Maryland.

Go to Maryland. The campus is nice and it is rising in the rankings. Also, you can always transfer into the business program if you want. And it’s very close to DC so you will have many job opportunities.

Maryland is about a 15 minute, $1.xx metro ride out of DC. It has a decent campus (but the surrounding are is pretty rough). Otherwise, the two are definitely comparable. I’d say UMD College Park for the proximity to SOMEPLACE.

I am a graduate of Maryland and also lived in Connecticut. I know that UConn is a great school and may be in a more rural area, but you will be close to the beaches, Boston, and other great New England areas.
Have you visited each school yet? The reason I ask is that Maryland is not in the greatest area. The surroundings get pretty rough. Kinda of reminds me of the area around Yale.

Uhhh, Storrs is about 85 miles from Boston, so it is not exactly a taxi ride away for a night out. Also, not sure what you feel is “nearby” in terms of beaches; Storrs is in the center of Connecticut, and considering you can’t have a car until you are a junior, an afternoon at the beach is not really a reality either. There is just nothing around there, sorry. It would be so much better if there was a ‘town’ connected to it, say like with Penn State. Penn State is in the ‘middle of nowhere’ Pennsylvania, BUT there is a thriving college town across the street with shops, restaurants, bars, off campus housing, etc. You can walk (or take the very convenient bus system) to do almost anything you want to do.

cbd:-> UConn’s pretty close to Manchester and Hartford. The place isn’t Boston, but they aren’t exactly in the middle of nowhere, either. Manchester has plenty of stores and Hartford has a lot of exhibits and restaurants. Plus, the food’s cheaper at UConn. I’m saying this as a guy who chose BC over UConn. :)
