Any input on making a decision between DU vs UVM? My son is trying to choose and both have pros and cons…hard to choose. Welcome feedback… scholarship to both so it’s not about cost…thx
Does your son know what he will want to major in? Does he have preferences regarding what he wants in a university? Are you from the US and if so which state?
UVM is a very good university in an attractive small city. I do not know anything about the University of Denver.
Thank you. He is college of arts and sciences, undeclared. Probably will do a combination of psych and business courses or econ and soc or something like that…so is not concerned with one academically over the other -
So what are the particulars he is having a hard time with? Location/social life/etc.?
DU is in the heart of the city, easy access to all things (state government, downtown Denver, major sports, theater, concerts) just a 15 minutes light rail ride away. It is very easy to get to/ from a major airport (also on the light rail, but more like an hour by light rail). It is close to real skiing (not that icy stuff those from the east call skiing). It has very competitive D1 teams in skiing, hockey (go DU, Frozen Four this weekend), lacrosse, women’s gymnastics) and decent teams in several other sports. It has a very good study abroad program in Scotland. It has Chipotle’s #1.
Vermont is close to Canada (for more hockey and skiing?), in a beautiful setting, close (but not a light rail ride away) to NYC and Boston for culture and sports. It has respectable D1 sports. It’s very green and probable more environmentally conscious than DU. IMO, weather is nicer in Vermont. It’s closer to an ocean. It has Ben and Jerry’s.
I like that DU has another campus outside the city and I believe any student can spend a semester or more there.
My niece is at UVM and her brother, my nephew is at Boulder. Feedback I’ve received is that they are very similar vibes, cool downtowns and similar type of students. However I think Boulder is known for a lot more sunny days and blue skies and that is why her younger brother picked it over UVM. Nice choices!
Great feedback - Thank you!
