University of Edinburgh

Hi, I am a US student and, I want to study law at the University of Edinburgh and had recently considered UCL and KCL. The basic qualifications for a US student is an 1800 min for SAT, 3 650+ on SAT II, or 3/4 APs min 4; however, when I looked deeper into UCL and KCL, qualifications for law went up to 1950 min and 4 APs w/ 4445. EEP! So although uni of edinburgh's qualifications are given, what scores will give one a fighting chance for a conditional/unconditional offer for law?

and if there are any Americans studying law at Edinburgh, UCL, KCL, please pip up/give advice/tell me your scores/how do you like it?

I’d suggest emailing Edinburgh’s law admissions dept for clarification - for the most part, anything written on CC will be speculation, because we’re not Edinburgh admissions tutors.

Make sure that you’re aware of the implications surrounding where you qualify in law, if you think there’s a possibility that you may want to practice as a lawyer. I’m not overly familiar, but Scots law is different to English & Welsh law, and there’s the possibility of Scotland declaring independence in 2014, which will make sod all difference to your day-to-day life regardless of which side of the border you live on (they even plan to retain the £, rather than switching to the Euro), but it could make legal education interesting. Furthermore, if you were to plan to return to the US, then I believe that the only place you can practice with an English law degree in the US is NY state. Now, that’s about the sum total of what I know, so you need to look into it deeper.

Yes, you should be more careful about your choice of study rather than getting in. Edinburgh is very lenient to international applicants!

thanks but I’m quite aware of all the factors. I was born in the UK and am interested in international law which scots law helps with a bunch. Plus, studying law in the uk is much more preferable than dabbling in everything for 4 years at a us university.

I know Edinburgh is not quite selective (as a whole) with its American/International applicants. Does that translate into law? Do y’all (sorry, from Texas) know of any Americans studying law at Edinburgh and if so what were their scores.

If you know it all, why are you asking? People are only trying to help.

International students have it very very easy to get into any UK university. Students paying international fees don’t count into the universitys’ quotas and so law shouldn’t be any more difficult than any other course. They just want your money.

If you have any specific questions about Edinburgh, feel free to PM me. I did my undergraduate degree there.
