Hi, I live in Tennessee and attend an academic high school that is a blue ribbon school. Every class that I have taken is honors with a couple of dual-enrollment. I have a 3.6 Weighted Core Florida GPA. My Act is a 23 but I have a 24 Superscored. My writing score is an 8. I have taken 5 years of Math, 4 years of English, 5 years of Science, 3 years of a Foreign Language, and 4 years of social science. I am an Eagle Scout and have earned 110+ hours of community service. I ran cross country and track freshman and sophomore year. I was a member of Teen Court Junior Year. I am a member of Beta Club and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. I also wrote a very good essay. I applied to FSU and FIU. I already got accepted to FIU. I would like to study Criminology because University of Florida is suppose to have one of the best in the country. Do I even have a shot of being considered for University of Florida?
I think you’re well rounded and would be a great fit for a lot of schools. However in all honesty you would be a long shot for UF. Your test score in particularly is well below their average, and if they’re going to take someone from out of state, that person would likely be above average, or with a super hook or talent.
On the other hand your chances at FSU might be decent, still below their average test scores but everything else looks strong. Have you visited either school? My son really liked FSU when we visited last summer.
Also, how about University of Central Florida? They seem to have a solid Department of Criminal Justice, and they just added a Ph.D. program last fall.
Good luck, I know it’s getting close to crunch time!
@Trisherella Thank you very much. I have visited FSU and UF and I liked FSU campus better. FSU seemed more progressive than UF. I looked at UCF but I am more more interested in FIU. How is the reputation there? I figured they would probably have a lot of intern opportunities in Miami.
