My parents want me to go to UF, because it is alot cheaper (instate tuition is a little over $5000). I know UF is a good school, but its in an isolated college town and in hot humid Florida (I want to leaveFlorida so badly). I liked AU, I would be really excited to live in DC. I also know the intern opportunities are great. UF is really big on sports and Greek life and im not really interested in that stuff, also UF has almost 50,000 students and AU has around 7,000. I would just like to hear your opinions on what you think I should do. The downside of AU is that it is very expensive and might not be worth all the extra money, though if the schools were the same price I think I would pick AU. I know UF is the smarter option but I feel like I would be really unhappy there. Also i’m a figure skater and since UF has no skating rinks anywhere near it, I would basically have to give skating up. If I went to AU I could still skate and even be on a collegate synchro skating team, which I think would be a great experience.

Hello Skatespin, I suggest that your follow your heart. If you want to go to American University, then go to American U. Tell your parents that the school is right for you and fulfill your needs. Follow your heart and do what is best for you. Go to the place where you are want to get the best and full college experience. Weigh your decision options carefully. If you know that UF (University of Florida) is going to make you unhappy and miserable or bring you misery and unhappiness, then do not go there. Go to a place where your needs will be met, a place you will feel comfortable and will have a good college experience, and most of all find a place where you feel right at home-a place you can call home, a place that is you as well as a place that you are going to be happy and has everything and all of the resources for you. Attend the college that you going to be happy at. Thank you for your post.

thanks crazygirl9999

To me it sounds like you’ve already made your decision more than halfway . If I was in your situation, I would question how much more I would have to pay for AU. To me, if I was paying something over 25k compared to 5k for UF I would go to UF no matter what just because I couldn’t afford it. So, basically it depends on your financial situation. Maybe you should talk to your parents about it more and see what they say. Also, think about your major and the types of programs AU offers compared to UF. Make an educated decision!

My dad makes about $150,000 a year, but my parents don’t want to pay private school tuition. My parents say they can’t afford it, but I feel like they could afford it if they wanted too. I think its that where I go doesn’t affect them, so why should they have to pay more for what is the same thing to them.

I got a $10,000 merit scholarship and I’m going to try to appeal my financial aid packet and get in contact with the school, but right now it seems pretty hopeless.

Also my mom went to UF and she loved it, so in her opinion it’s the best school ever. Me and my mother are very very different though.
