Hi! So, after settling a Syracuse vs. Babson debate and depositing at Babson, UF called back (after rejecting my term request change from innovation academy) and said they could give me Summer/Fall? It was unclear whether I would start Summer or Fall, I emailed them but they haven’t responded.
UF would be $5000 cheaper than Babson and a 6 hour drive from home. I can afford Babson but it’ll be a little bit tighter.
I will be studying Marketing, I also wanted to do Public Relations or advertising but Babson doesn’t offer it. However, Babson is only specialized on Business and is 2,500 students vs. 50,000 UF. I feel like the experience is a lot more personal.
Would appreciate any input.
UF is a better education at a better cost. And is very likely more fun, too.
For business, I’d say Babson beats out UF
UF is the better choice. If you decide to change your major it will be an advantage to UF as well. But ultimately it’s a personal decision nobody but you can make.
I would say UF for Business plus UF is located in a great college town and has very much too offer. You would get a far better education at UF.
I’m baffled by the strong sentiment for UF. Babson is a very strong business school and its location in Wellesley is hardly something to sneeze at. I think it comes down to how big the money issue is for you, how important it is to be close to home and whether you want a personal experience or a large state school. These are items that no one here can decide for you.
IMO the things to consider are:
Affordability - and it seems UF would be easier but both are do-able
Location - if you want to stay in Florida after college, UF would be the bigger name, have more alumni etc.
Academics - it seems UF has the major you want. Have you been directly admitted to the business school?
Fit - Do you prefer a small all-business school or a large public? Which environment do you think you would be happiest and most successful at? Only you can answer this question.
These schools are like cranberries and oranges. Couldn’t be more different.
If the price difference is one you can afford and you are sure you want to business, I would go with Babson. It is a smaller school that will give you more personalized service, and the location in Boston and the NE would be helpful to internships.
If you do go to UF, I would highly suggest going the Summer B route if you can. Fall is very hectic for Freshmen with football season, and the short summer term allows kids just out of high school time getting acclimated to Gainesville, living in the dorms, making some friends and getting used to being a college student. You will seem like an upperclassmen to the freshman when they move-in in the fall. It is also helpful if you want to rush a sorority or fraternity in the Fall as they sometimes have summer pre-rush events.
The other advantage of Summer B is that you would get two classes out of the way earlier. I ended up two classes short of graduating after four years, and had to take a summer session after my senior year. It hurt my job search, and it would have been better to get the classes in before freshman year instead of after senior year. Good luck with whatever you choose!!!
Only choose Babson if you’re 100% sold on a degree in Business administration. Otherwise choose UF and have the flexibility to switch majors to finance, accounting, marketing, public relations, etc.
Babson has many concentrations including accounting, finance and marketing. Their graduates do extremely well for themselves. I’d choose Babson without a doubt.
Curious what you did. Babson is ranked #1 in Business, #1 for Return on investment, etc with ex-CEO’s teaching classes etc - but they are 2 very different experiences.
interesting comments on here. At first I would have thought Babson was more highly rated (hate talking about ratings) , but after review Florida is rated higher in undergrad and grad business schools by at least two rankings I checked,.
