What are the chances for someone who was deferred in EA? Does it mean I am more likely to get denied or anything like that?
In the past, I think it was something like 50-50 overall, but those chances were increased if you were in-state and lower if you were OOS. This year, it won’t be 50-50 because of the increase in overall applications – both for EA and RD. So …
As we wait for decisions to come out on Friday I looked back into the above and this statement is very telling :
“we do have a goal of having our enrolling class (not accepted but enrolling) be roughly 80% in-state and 20% out-of-state, so it will be somewhat more challenging to be admitted as a non-GA resident.”
How times have changed I am legacy UGA (88) and unfortunately that has no bearing anymore and my sons chances of being accepted from OOS are slim
The full quote was a bit surprising to me. I wasn’t aware there were more OOS applications now. Or maybe that is not new, but I did not notice that data point before.
“Roughly 45% of the applicant pool is in-state, and 55% is out-of-state/international. Due to UGA being the flagship university for the state of Georgia, we do have a goal of having our enrolling class (not accepted but enrolling) be roughly 80% in-state and 20% out-of-state, so it will be somewhat more challenging to be admitted as a non-GA resident.”
Yes, it is quite different than in “our day”. Fingers crossed for your sons.
Decisions are out : We just looked he was denied I’m not surprised regardless of his high stats we are OOS so that automatically put us at a deficit… I’m sad too bc I’m legacy UGA and would have loved for him to attend
My daughter was just accepted, so now she is torn because thought she would be denied. We are OOS and pre-business. Does anyone have guidance as to the housing situation for those who have yet to sign up or pay deposit. She has several options and thought she had it figured out but being accepted just changed things! But am not sure if it’s like our state schools and housing is not guaranteed because they are beyond capacity (we are in TX). Any advise is greatly appreciated.
If she fills out the application for housing, which will come out in the next day or two for her and pays the $35 she will get in line for housing. They will provide housing for all entering freshmen who want it.
Great! Is all undergraduate housing available to incoming Freshman or just First Year Residency? Thanks for responding!
Freshmen can only live in certain dorms. Some have upperclassmen also but others are all freshmen.
Have any OOS students received “Classic Scholarship” yet? Did it come with admission? My student would love to go to UGA, but the cost is obviously high.
32 ACT
don’t know what recalculated GPA is, but she is an IB diploma candidate, and has great grades. Very very strong extracurriculars, and a very strong common app essay.
Does she have a chance at any scholarship money, or even honors? The website said they will be finalizing both of those early April.
I don’t know about scholarships, but I believe Honors was announced a few days ago. @billythegoldfish Didn’t Honors invitations come out?
Our honor’s acceptance came yesterday (3/31). We had received the scholarship announcement much earlier (I think with the initial EA acceptance but I’m not 100% sure).
I don’t know if there are more honors decisions or awards still coming. But the admissions office is pretty responsive to questions.
I hope there are more of both and it works out for everyone here…
Daughter received notice of this scholarship about a week ago.
Is there a target date for financial aid decisions and awards that has been communicated to anyone?
Thank you, but I could not find that information other than early April.
Following because would like to know also…
I reached out to financial aid today- will let you know if**they respond
The office did respond, but due to privacy can’t speak to me directly regarding aid for my student (he’s 17 - but I get it. Anyway the student must reach out to the office in the following way “responses to questions on aid must be sent to a student’s UGA e-mail account. Please have your student send any specific questions about their award from their UGA e-mail account with their full name and UGA student ID number (a 9-digit number beginning with “81”)”
doe sanyone know about the freshman oreintation sessions this summer- is housing provided? does it matter which session you do- like do earlier ones give you benefits of earlier class registration or housing?
Last year, students had the option of spending the night in the dorm at orientation, but it wasn’t required. Earlier registration generally gives students a better chance of getting their preferred classes; however, the school does hold back some sections for later orientation sessions. I seem to recall at registration last summer, some students had trouble getting into Pre-calculus because they were reserving it for certain majors (STEM maybe? Don’t recall exactly…I think it was the Terry business students who weren’t initially able to register for it.)
Also at orientation, some students will take placement exams if required, for Math and foreign language placement.
As for housing, that is handled separately from orientation. Your housing priority date is based on when you paid the housing deposit. Those who paid the deposit first (i.e., those accepted in EA) will get the earliest pick. Housing assignments aren’t determined until after May 1. If you haven’t already, your student can log in to the Dawg House to look for potential roommates.
