University of Houston campus life

I’m going to be a freshman at UH in the fall of 2015. What’s the campus life like at UH??

Depends on what you want. If you’re interested in frats or sororities, then it will probably satisfy you.

Living on campus is better than commuting. Although the meal plan for freshman isn’t worth what it costs, I haven’t encountered any significant problems with dining or housing.

Generally speaking, everyone here is pretty nice and because the school is so diverse, most students feel welcomed.

(Credibility: currently writing from my dorm at UH, where I’ve spent the last two semesters. I am transferring in part because the social aspects of the university aren’t too good for me. If you want more details about the school, feel free to PM me.)

Gonna be real honest here, but campus life sucks at UH. It’s what you would expect from a commuter school.

@OhSorryYo, aren’t you a UT student?

@notsosmart4, Welcome to UH. What used to be a 'commuter college" is no longer. Don’t listen to anyone from any other Texas university when it comes to UH. It is a beautiful, friendly, diverse campus, and Houston has been voted the Coolest City in the U.S. Take full advantage of the city and the amazing things offered at UH!

Many of the top students at our local HS have chosen UH over the past few years due to the excellent academic programs and scholarships, but they all chose to live on campus, even though they could have commuted. My good friend’s son is a sophomore and still lives on campus. He loves UH and has gotten very involved in campus organizations. Have fun and good luck!

I live in Houston and several family/friends attend UH. Seeing as how every single one of them takes almost an hour to get to class everyday, it’s still very much a “commuter college”

That’s fine, @OhSorryYo. Perhaps a more useful post would have been so say you know some UH students who commute. What you said, however was

Some people think campus life sucks at UT. They may be wrong also.

Campus life at UH sucks because after classes end, there is nobody on campus. There is literally no life on campus. Get it?

At UT, “going home” to our off-campus apartments is literally a few feet away from our classrooms. Our off-campus housing is closer to UT than Cougar Place is to UH.

Do coogs regularly make the hour drive back to campus at night for some small social events held on campus?

OP can look up “social life” for UH on SR or some other website to get testimonials from real UH students if my advice isn’t enough.
