University of Kansas- Journ/Mass Comm

Can anyone give me some good advice regarding the Univ of Kansas and their Journalism/Mass Communications under grad program? We wold be interested in more of the strategic comm branch rather than broadcast or print journalismm. We were told that in some rankings it comes up as a good school but it doesnt seem too get mentioned alot. S is under the impression that its a good program and is very interested. I am not so convinced because I am concerned it's just an OK program, its OOS for us and close to 8 hours drive. But pluses are it would be cheaper if he qualifies for some of their non/res scholarships. We as parents like Mizzou or Ind better- S doesnt but has to be the one happy with the school too. Looking for pluses or minuses to help weed out. Also starting looking into Univ od Wis- Madison.

The Kansas journalism program is well known. I don’t know much about the details. Mizzou and Indiana also have well known jounralism programs. As far as OOS goes Kansas is not the most expensive. People who go to Kansas always seem to like it a lot. I would consider visting there if you have not done so already.

We did visit Kansas - S really liked it. While it was nice- we the parents reallly liked the overall campus and feel of Mizzou much better. Despite it being more expensive for us- we still liked it better. Little closer, liked the layout, plus you always hear it has a great program. Think the S is a little caught up in the hype about the enthusiasm at sports games- which is not what you base your decision on. So I am looking for some facts that Kansas is or is not a decent program. It just really doesnt get mentioned much.

For communication theory UW Madison is hard to beat. A small intense program.
