University of Kansas

Opinions on the university, Lawrence(as well as Kansas City since its so close), general academic climate(especially the humanities and social sciences), student life, and a real big one...religious life(plz hold comments about westboro baptist church in topeka...i assume not every church is like that). Very big scholarship for me there, so I'd love to have some input.

Lawrence is pretty liberal, so I don't think you have to worry about a pervasive ultra-conservative, evangelical Christian atmosphere. Some kids will be very religious (not just Christian, either), some kids will be atheists, agnostic, or apathetic. There is plenty to do in Lawrence, but Kansas City is a quick 40 miles away, so if you are interested in more variety in restaurants, concerts, clubs, or major league sports, you can certainly get there. I can't speak for the academics, but with as big a school as it is there will be every type of social activity imaginable, including an active Greek contingent.

im actually a very devout christian...wondering if there were good churches around town

A fine school that is somewhat underrated. Great campus and nice college town with a full range of churches.

Very pretty campus. Great college town. No clue about the churches, but its easily the most liberal city in Kansas and is known for partying. Academically, I don't know too much but my friends say its "way overrated!" But I love Lawrence. If I could live in Lawrence and not go to KU, I would. It's an amazing town.

now one of my goals in college is to begin to hone my literary craft. my current style could be described as a noveau-beat generation kinda thing, without the drugs and all(remember, devout Christian). Im heavily influenced by writers like Kerouac, Salinger, Burroughs, and William Least Heat Moon. Would I find a stimulating academic climate at ku?

Ditto what Barrons said. A very good university. Reportedly very contented students. I'm sort of glad it is overlooked by "prestige obsessed" folks at CC. SMILE.

hows the english department?

any input on english or history appreciated
