@ClassOf2020x You should be very proud! Congratulations and best of luck to you!
@stayweirdsmcm Thank you very much and you as well
what is the order of school competitiveness?
@nvaughan75 Freshman Connection is not a Scarlet Letter in any way. My suggestion is you make an appointment (phone or in person) with the Freshman Connection advisors - they are so helpful and welcoming. They explain the process to you and sign you up for courses on the spot. Yes, you will be in the class of 2020. You will attend Freshman Connection orientation - its really no different than the other orientation. You will get housing just like any other freshman as long as you get your acceptance and money in on time. You can go to the D1 games and get tickets just like any other student. The classes tend to be smaller with he same quality professors. Really, the only difference is the classes start in the afternoon, usually between 3-7pm. My son can’t recommend Freshman Connection highly enough.
@ajs28152 I was accepted to the honors college
International student
SAT-2060
Rank - Top 5%
Great LoRs, Essays
@SoofDad I agree! My SAT math + reading was 1370. However my Recommendations, short answer questions and essay were pretty good. I too believe that was a strong factor that i got in to the honours college
@nvaughan75 - I can second Soofdad’s comment that no one cares if you are in Freshman Connection. Honestly, no one will ask, it’s only one semester, and you will graduate with all your peers that get fall admission!
However, you should note that Freshman Connection is NOT automatic with spring admission and is limited, so if you want to participate, you should be sure to enroll in that as soon as possible/when you commit.
I honestly think they do Freshman connection as a way making students take classes that might not fill up and to relieve the burden of earlier classes that all freshman have to take. They also figure after the first semester their is a percentage of students who quit or transfer…so it opens up space in earlier classes.
It doesn’t look like you can commit to Freshman Connection until March 2nd.
What is the FIRE program?
I was wondering the same thing ^. My friend got into that but has no clue what it is
Got into Honors and Biochemistry. Out of state (New Mexico), but legacy (for graduate school, not sure if that counts).
35 ACT, 4.0 UW/4.3-ish weighted (7 APs, 4 honors, but we don’t get extra weighting for honors), school doesn’t rank
NMSF, NHS, AP Scholar with Honors, Presidential Scholar, all that stuff
Decent essay and short answers, probably good recommendation letter (didn’t read)
Good extracurriculars: sports, leadership, lots of tutoring and other volunteering, working at a national laboratory
Does anyone know when BK candidates will be notified? And am I eligible, being out of state? Thanks.
@nowness Yes, you are eligible for Banneker/Key out of state. I believe they send out invitations to interview sometime in early March, but you should double check on that.
Will students who got accepted to spring semester (freshman connection) get an acceptance letter in the mail?
@adirv111 Yes
Is there an official class of 2020 Facebook group yet? We should get one going
@aulrich16 Yes there is. Just type in University of Maryland Class of 2020
In-state admitted, 1600/1600 SAT and 3.3 UW GPA. Nine AP classes.
@terpgirl thank you!!
Rockland Mom: does acceptance for Spring preclude you from getting Merit/Aid, etc? Thanks much
