Are you talking about this - Testudo checking in with an update about decisions! #BeATerp #UMD2021
Can’t wait for decisions!!! We still thinking Friday at 4:45??
Feb 1.
I thought they usually release a few days before Feb 1 though… last year they released on the 29th which was the Friday before Feb 1. This year, the Friday before Feb 1 is this Friday (Jan 27th) so doesn’t it make sense that it will in fact be this Friday?
Do they usually announce before they say they will announce? If yes, then I’m with you.
It is most likely either Friday or Monday (based on past dates) but could be anywhere up to Feb 1st
Yes, they never say that they’re actually releasing the decisions until they actually do release them. In other words, they’re not gonna be like “hey guys, we’re releasing decisions at Sunday at 5:30PM” or anything like that… they’ll just release them without saying anything.
I personally think/hope it’s Friday, but only the school knows for sure.
Yeah I think it’ll be Friday too.
I hope that it isn’t going to be Friday, but I feel like it is going to be Monday the 30th because in the past they have stuck to staying at the very end of the month. I have also heard that they do not do the whole “Friday night so that angry students/parents can’t call until their emotions have died down after the weekend” thing, so that is more of a non-factor there
But Friday is still the 27th so it’s towards the end of the month so idk. This is all just speculation, I have absolutely no idea when we can expect to hear back
i called the admissions office earlier and they said priority applicants decisions will be out by the end of January
It’s probably just wishful thinking, but I think if it isn’t on Friday, then it has to be Monday. The last two years it was released on the 29th and 26th, so the 27th and 30th are right in that range.
They are all just making us crazy by keeping with the vague statement.
My prediction is Monday Jan 30. The point that maryversity made earlier in this or another thread is a good one–she says Maryland may bring the school mascot Testudo and visit a few homes of students in Maryland to hand-deliver the admissions decision, like as if the my were winners of a national sweepstake competition. This was done two years ago in a Sunday and admissions decisions were released to everybody else the next day. The personal delivery “tour” generated a lot of good will and positive publicity for the school and I suspect they may try to do this again this Sunday. Last year the snow storm prevented them from conducting this “tour”.
I think there is a chance they will release this Friday! They posted 10 hours ago on twitter that Testudo has an update about decisions!
@maryversity, how did your child receive a letter before an email on admissions?
@WestPrep the twitter post you are referring to is a picture that says “Class of #UMD2021 we can’t wait to meet you!” I think that is the “update”…
Which wouldn’t imply that they are releasing them any earlier/later
@Meichangsu @maryversity wrote that the dates listed were the dates on the letters themselves, but that the letters were actually received several days later than those dates.
FYI, to further clarify the letters I listed, specifically in regard to admission to a LEP (limited enrollment program)…
While the hard copy letter of welcome/congrats from the LEP was separate from the university letter of admission/congrats (and dated a little later), the online decision will let you know right away about that- there is no wait. You just have to scroll to the very bottom of the notification to check advising college that you are assigned to.
If you were admitted to the LEP you applied to, your advising college will be the college you expect (so Robert H. Smith for business students, A, James Clark for engineering, Philip Merrill for journalism, etc).
On the other hand, if you advising college is NOT the LEP you expect, but rather it states that your advising college is letters and sciences, that means you were not admitted to the LEP.
@SoofDad did a great job of explaining this in his post on admissions decision outcomes http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-maryland-college-park/1937069-understanding-the-umd-admissions-process-p1.html
Hang in there…
