Oh thanks it does say received.
I’d like to comment on yield. The UMD website states "For the Fall 2016 freshmen class, we received nearly 30,200 applications for a class of 4,075… " That 30.200 number INCLUDES both Priority and Regular applicants. The 4075 number EXCLUDES Spring admits (transfers and FC). From what I can tell, the UMD yield has historically been 33%. Thus, they will accept about 12,225 applicants (priority and regular) every year. I think, and I have no data to back it up, that about 20,000 applied Priority last year. If the number of applicants goes up, the acceptance rate goes down.
I don’t know if they expect to increase the Freshman class size, but that would also impact the acceptance rate.
@SoofDad @maryversity OK, we’ll just have to wait and see
@maryversity You said the housing glitch appears the day before decisions.
I wasn’t aware of what this is, so I checked older threads. From what I understood, this is a link to housing application that appears on the portal BEFORE the decision itself is released. And that it appears only for folks who will be getting accepted. Did I understand right?
And they haven’t fixed this glitch?
Thanks!
@durna01 That is correct that it appears on the portal BEFORE the decision is released, but it’s not exactly a glitch (even though that’s what I initially thought it was)…it’s more of an activation of a page and really is not an indicator of admission - it is just an indicator that admissions decisions online are imminent.
Yes, a large percentage of those people on college confidential that reported it did get admitted, but there were also enough that did not get the page but did get admitted and those that got the page but did not get admitted to clarify it is NOT an indicator of admission decision. Bear in mind that people on college confidential is only a small representation of total applicants…
I couldn’t say for sure if this has been fixed or whether it will happen again this year…
@maryversity Thanks. UT Austin did something similar on Friday, They released a few acceptances and at the very same time, they added a Housing section to their portal, which gave false hope to many.
The admissions office just posted on Facebook: Are you counting the days until the Feb. 1 decision release? We are too!
Do we think this means they are releasing it on February 1?
@phs2017 Yes.
If there was any doubt before, this should put it to rest.
Not necessarily. It is called the Feb 1 decision release so they are merely referring to it as that. The FB post does not mean that they won’t hold true to releasing a few days early. Basically it is anyone’s guess and they will be released when they are released. At least it won’t be past 2/1 that s the only guarantee
If I applied Priority for Nov. 1, then I know that I will find out about my admission decision by Feb. 1. However, if accepted, how much time do I have to accept/decline the admissions offer? Is it May 1 just like the majority of other schools? Thank you!!
Yes May 1 @andie2017
@phs2017 Where on facebook is that posted? I follow the offical Maryland page and I didn’t see a post from the admissions office. Wondering if there is another group.
@Swimming123 University of Maryland Admissions Second post from the top
@sml1234 - Thank you!
is acceptance found out through letter or online?
@dancer33 both
@dancer33, You will be notified by email that your portal has been updated and will be able to see your decision online that day. In addition, you will receive a letter of admission via snail mail.
If you are admitted, you can potentially get several letters over the next several weeks. When my eldest applied back in the Nov 1, 2011 priority application round (2012 Fall matriculation), this is the sequence of notifications he received:
The email admission notification was on Jan 30 (or 31) but the snail mail letters were dated as follows (but of course we received them several days after these dates):
Jan 27 congrats on admission and scholars in same letter
Feb 3 separate scholars letter with info about filling out interest survey to select specific program
Feb 8 congrats on admission to A James Clark School of Engineering
Feb 21 congrats on presidential scholarship
March 14 congrats on getting into specific program in scholars
Hope that timeline helps answer some questions…
anyone see the tweet??
I don’t see anything new.
@collegecrazyperson the one about decisions being released by February 1? I wouldn’t read into that too much…
My guess is that they are just trying to build some anticipation or remind people that they are coming out soon (not that we need reminding).
